FSU tends to play second (or third) fiddle to University of Florida and the private (and very pricey) University of Miami, yet it seems to be on the rise.
They have a strong film department, and as you seem to already know, the Dedman School of Hospitality is thriving. I don't know anything about their theater department.
I have a kid there who is majoring in the social sciences and he loves it. He has a good relationship with his college advisor and is doing well in his classes.
FSU is a very large school, with all that entails. However, Tallahassee is a pretty and fun town, the campus is gorgeous.
If you get serious, you need to visit.
In the meantime, check out sites like StudentsReview or College Prowler or Facebook--see what the students themselves think about FSU.

Yeah, theater is an FSU speciality, which we over at UF love to make fun of - (our specialities are you know... breakthrough medicine, brain research, engineering, etc.). I can't really give you an unbiased opinion, sorry.

UF is definitely the school you want to go to...it is by far the best school in Florida in just about every category. Do some research on UF and you may end up there...like I did....from the Bronx no less!

I'd be careful about Liberal Arts. They have shelved the Five Year Plan for now, but I get the feeling that the Humanities are not a huge priority there.

Critics of the five year plan called attention to the plan's direct contradiction of the committees' hiring recommendations: rather than increase the number of faculty in order adequately to manage these departments' workloads, the plan actually reduced the numbers of already-overworked faculty pools.

Ahhhh, I wasn't disappointed.....tooo funny,

As you'll find out quickly there is quite a rivalry between UF and FSU, and not just on the Football field.

I'm a Nole myself but am willing to admit that UF has a wonderful medical program.

You honestly can't lose by choosing either school.

IMHO tho, if you are choosing by the towns they are in.....I would choose Tallahassee, I just like it better. Sorry Gators....

My niece and nephew both went to FSU. Her major was Hospitality she is now working at a major country club as the banquet manager/event planner.
My nephew is now in his 2nd year at FSU law school.
They both have nothing but good things to say about the school.

captnemo62 was right when he said "As you'll find out quickly there is quite a rivalry between UF and FSU, and not just on the Football field."
I was here maybe 1 week when I was asked "what are you" meaning nole or gator. lol it had to be explained to me.

I agree UF is WAY better...but I think I would prefer living in Tallahassee to that in Gainesville but I am in my 30's now so all the young ones wear a little thin on me. I have never lived in Tally but have friends that live there and it's not quite so "young" but I would never get a degree from FSU...why would I go through all that trouble to end up being too embarrassed to display my degree? :P

FSU is a great school, in the end it really doesn't matter where you went to school unless you are going for specific majors, which it looks like you are not going into those fields. When you graduate it doesn't matter where you graduated from, it matter what you do with it. I know someone that went to UM got a Masters and he has been fired from like 4 jobs in the last four or 5 years. Then I know some that graduated from FSU, who is a major big wing in the world. So it depends what you do with it.

I have to say Gainsville and Tallahassee have different atmospheres. The people at UF, are overall (not all) cocky people, my uncle is a Gator and a Hurricane graducate ontop of it, and he is the typical cocky gator and hurricane fan.

If its anything, I loved FSU, and had a great college experience. And guess what I got excepted to UF and turned them down.
