I am moving back to Tallahassee for the first time in 6 years. I do not want to live with students if possible, but finding a 1 bed/1 bath with utilities for around $800-$850/mo is proving to be very difficult. Most 1/1s are $800-$900 even with a state employee discount, and then you have to add another $150 for utilities and internet. I don't trust any of the reviews on apartmentratings.com because many of the terrible, crime-ridden complexes I remember from my student days (Windrush, Tally Square, Franklin Pointe, Ridgewood) are flooded with 5.0/5.0 and obviously fake reviews.

Any suggestions? I will be working in Southwood and have no issue with commuting.

Are you male/female?

Edit: I ask because my friend and I are moving back to Tallahassee and would consider a 3/3 apartment/townhouse. We both graduated this year but have full time jobs in Tallahassee now.

I was recently looking for the same thing. I looked at the neighborhood just east of downtown, which is getting nicer, especially with the completion of Franklin Ave. and Cascades Park, and doesn't have a lot of students. A lot of places in that area are run down, but one place worth checking out is 830 E. Park Ave. They have 1/1's for $575 not including utilities, and the apts are fairly nice (for $575). If I didn't move into my current apt. (which is full, otherwise I would recommend it), I would have moved in there.
