Going to small claims court to get restitution for damage to car. (sales)

Trying to sell my 1982 Mercedes Benz 380sec, I entered into a consignment contract with a local used car company to sell said car. After the car was not sold after a years time, I recovered the car.

At that time, I noticed several blemishes on the hood, roof and trunk. There are now several dozen spots ranging in size and shape. A professional auto painter has advised me these spots are the result of "acid" etching into the clear coat of the car paint. He conjectured that jumping car batteries nearby could have emitted acid fumes into the air. And my car was parked near a high traffic area. The resulting gas emissions could also etch the car's finish. In his opinion the spots could not be fixed

The owners of the used car sales company agreed to have their "detailer" repair the spots, but he was unable to make any improvements.

Final note-The written consignment agreement included a passage relieving the company of responsibility for any damages done to the car while it was in their possession. Hopefully, that is not legally enforceable.
