Hello everyone!

So a little background. I'm 17 years old. I am to be going to college soon. Now, I've never been to Florida, but know tons of people who have or have lived there. They talk a lot about Tallahassee or Orlando and how great it is and how nice and beautiful.
Plus, I've always wanted to be in Florida. I adore hot weather. I love beaches. I love the sun!
Anyway, I'm a Black student. However, I haven't spent many years in "Black" areas. I've always lived in predominantly "White" areas my entire life. So, it's pretty much what I'm use to.
I would like to go someplace where it's predominantly White or a very great mix. Also a place where there isn't a lot of racism.
Also, I love meeting new people, so I would like to go someplace where the people are friendly and people are open. I won't be moving with family, just by myself, so I don't want to move someplace where the people aren't friendly and are hard to get to know.
Another thing is a place filled with amenities; restaurants, malls, parks..etc I like to have fun.
So if you have experience with these places or if you know of a place better than those options, PLEASE let me know. I want a great college experience, with great people. It would be VERY helpful advice from people that have lived there or just been to the area a lot.
Another big thing is a CLEAN city! I don't like places that looks like a dump!

Also if you do have any suggestions, please let me know about your experience and how is was for you, thanks!

Your criteria definitely points toward Tallahassee, especially in terms of racial integration and overall friendliness. Tallahassee has a lot going on as the home of two large universities (FSU and FAMU), a vibrant downtown and being the state capital it's well kept up/quite clean. It's also a much more educated city overall than Orlando, which is something one needs around them when attending college in my opinion.

I am quite confident that you would thoroughly enjoy yourself at either FSU or UCF.

Orlando and Tallahassee are very different cities from each other, but both have a lot to offer for a college student.

Set aside some time this spring and visit both campuses. That should give you a great idea of which is more for you.

Oh yes, the college town antics are so much better in Tally vs Orlando since you're around a more "educated" populace. For somebody who talks about "brain drain" so much in regards to UCF in Orlando, on would think the same would apply to Tally. I mean you can't honestly think the magnitudes of graduates that FSU and FAMU pour out each year settle and stay in Tally right? It's a fine town, one can certainly enjoy life there. Hey for politics its the best place in Florida, but your reasoning as to why it's better (totally subjective anyways) than Orlando is a bit laughable.

Tallahassee. IMO, better in a lot of ways, except probably jobs/pay. Other than that, I would say Tallahassee.

I've lived in both places and Tallahassee wins, hands down.

Since you'll be in college, I just thought I should point out that the Black Student Union at FSU is one of their biggest student run organizations on campus. I'd say FSU is a very balanced campus in terms of race and ethnicity.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of amenities are you looking for? That word covers a broad spectrum of things and varies greatly from place to place.
