Hi Everyone. My wife and I are debating to relocate either to Tallahassee or GA. I am leaning more towards Tally, because the things I have researched and read about GA does not interest me much anymore. One of the things I read about GA is that the crime rate is high and the diversity is not equal. It seems that the majority of population in GA is African American, and although I can careless what race they are, I am all about equality and I want a place that will accept African American as much as they will accept Whites and Hispanics. I DO NOT know if that is the case in GA and I apologize if I have offended anyone, that is why I am here to get suggestions, because I dont know. Anyway, I am 30 years old and my wife is 29. We have 2 boys. 6 and 2. My oldest is in Kindergaten, so moving to an area where there is top rated schools is a plus. My wife works from home, so she will not have a problem relocating. I will need to start looking for work. I am looking to work in a hospital, so I will need to know the surrounding hospitals in the area of interest. As far as housing, we will be renting. Looking for a 3 bedroom. We do not want to pay no more than $900. Is it possible to pay this and be in a safe and good neighborhood? We are from Fort Lauderdale, FL (South Florida) so, paying $900 here is "the ghetto".. Average rent in Fort Lauderdale for a safe area and good community is $1300+ for a 2 bedroom and $1500+ for a 3 bedroom.
My wife wants to rent a townhouse because she wants a private patio or porch and wants to live in a 2 story home. I would prefer a townhouse or would also consider a nice apt with a private balcony or porch.

Can anyone give suggestions, advice and ideas?

Thank you!

Come to Tallahassee. It's a beautiful city full of great schools and universities. Almost everyone who comes here loves it. You will want to look at Tallahassee memorial hospital or capital regional medical center for work.

I think you should be able to find a townhouse for that price. In fact my buddy pays 950 for a very nice 2 story 3 bedroom townhouse in a nice area here.

If you value a high quality of life, lots of beautiful surrounding areas you will enjoy your time here.

Thanks! I really appreciate your response. I plan to visit next month. Is there any areas you would recommend that I should visit in Tally and any neighborhoods or communities too?

Generally the schools/neighborhoods are best for families in the northeast part of the city. North of I-10 along Thomasville Road, or in the east around Bucklake. Southwood in the southeast is a growing area, but schools haven't really caught up down there yet in my opinion.

As nwsflyer said, the Northeast part of town is probably where you want to be especially for education purposes. Somewhere probably in Killearn, North of i-10. I'm not too sure on the rental opportunities though in the NE part of town. Lived there for more than 10 years and people in general weren't too keen on having any rentals because of the perception to drive down property values in the neighborhood.
