We are looking to buy a home in Tallahassee sometime in the next month or two. We have been renting in the Midtown area and love it, but our current home is being sold. Our budget is super low…with $120,000 being our absolute cap. So far, we've pretty much just viewed homes that are a complete dump, in a bad area, or are tiny. We have 2 small kids, so we want a family-friendly neighborhood. We've seen some homes available in Indianhead Acres, Timberlake, and Killearn Acres. I can't get a good vibe by just driving through Indianhead, but I've heard mixed comments. I've talked with some who love it, and others say that the crime is moving in from the south…confusing. Killearn is a little further north than we wanted, but do-able. Public schools aren't a big issue b/c we are homeschooling. Thanks for any help. We've only lived in Tallahassee for a year, and we're still not familiar with all the areas. We don't mind homes that need work, but we're very concerned about safety.

If your concerned with safety better to do Killearn acres. It's far away in the suburbs and no real risk of crime up there. Indian head is a good neighborhood, with lots of college professors and Tallahassee locals calling it home.

And the nice thing about indianhead is its so centrally located to everything.

I honestly don't think you would have to worry about either neighborhood, however if you were hyper about crime Killearn would be the safest option.

Check out lakeshore, and neighborhoods off of old bainbridge road north of Tharpe street. Also Monroe street north of I-10 is a good area and you can get more home for your money.
