Looks like my family will be moving to Tallahassee this summer as soon as school gets out. This board has been incredibly helpful. What stresses us out the most is we currently have our son (5) enrolled in day camps and Swim Team all summer at home, but obviously not in Tallahassee.

What is the country club situation there? We are members of a country club here, and have budgeted to join one there for the pool and to meet people... What can you tell me?

I haven't lived in TLH for years, although I still have family there and visit often. Golden Eagle on the far northern edge of town has gold/swim/social/etc. The Summerbrooke neighborhood on the northside also has golf/swim. Capital City CC is the oldest club, and is near the capital. I have no idea what the facilities are like these days - haven't been there in years.

Killearn CC on the northside is (or was?) the most popular the last couple of decades, but I believe they are proposing an overhaul of things. Their facilities have declined, I believe, but that is something you should also consider.

If you're looking for swim teams, you should also consider the city of TLH's Trousdell swim facility. I have visited that facility a couple of times over the years while visiting - they have a recreation pool/slide for kids, but I noticed that they also have an olympic-sized pool, and I believe that I saw information/banners for swim teams.

If you're interested in tennis, there is also the Forest Meadows racquet facility on the northside.

Summerbrooke has $600/year for family social+pool membership - $1,700 for family social+pool+golf with unlimited cart.

Golden Eagle is $500+/month for family golf membership with cart fee (I didn't check family pool membership).

If you are just looking for social and pool, check Killearn Commons ( http://www.killearncommons.com/ ). It's not golf course country club - but community has pool and I heard they have a lot of social events.

For average house price, Golden Eagle is gated and the most expensive ($400k+). Summerbrooke is slightly less expensive than Golden Eagle ($300k+). Killearn Commons is around $200k.

For school:

I moved here 3 months ago. NE area has best schools in town. Try to find a house within Hawks Rise Elementary or Killearn Elementary district. Kids in those two schools go to Deerlake middle and Lawton Chiles high.

If you are interested in charter schools, try FSU lab school in Southwood area. Just remember that living in Southwood area does not guarantee to get into FSU lab school. You should contact the school for admission process.
