tell me how Tallahassee is like ?? (apartment, crime, how much)

i'm a male from New York, who plans to apply at FAMU or FSU and hopefully attend either school. i want to know how Tallahassee is like and the perspective of the people who live there. i would like to know things such as the crime rate/statistics, climate, Tallahassee culture, Transportation options/commute time, how good are the healthcare facilities, taxes, affordability, and how much an apartment normally cost in Tallahassee because i plan to not live on campus. thank you and have great day.

Which programs are you interested in and where in NY are you from? You would have a different transition from say Elmira or Albany than say Long Island. FAMU and FSU have different strong suits. Also there is a difference in a 35k student campus versus a 13k student campus, let alone the differences in culture for a HBCU and a PWI.

Crime states and interactive mapping are available at talgov.com. Most housing geared to college students is over valued. The climate is fine, summers can be oppressive, but no snow in the winter. Culture is centered around the universities and the support infrastructure although you can escape it if you try. There is a surprising amount of diversity for a town of its size but the the sometimes I feel that the cultural loci are monolithic. We are breaking out of that as the population grows so there are more alternatives and variances. the public transit is a hub and spoke model and requires time to navigate from different parts of town. It is hilly, so bikers must be dedicated. Most folks drive. Healthcare options are reasonable for average requirements.
