Thanks, Jas!
Yeah, I don't need waves to enjoy a beach though they are so nice to hear and watch.
I lived in SoFla for 22 years and had one kid get sucked away by undertow once (we recaptured her ) so I am happier with no waves for my purpose of taking dogs there.

Will post after my trip to view the unit next Th-Sa. If I buy it I'll want other info like recommendations for all the stuff one needs when relocating etc.

Wish me luck, I'm pretty stoked about this place

Oh, the remoteness! The drive from TH airport was just woods and woods and woods...Carrabelle itself I loved. But that drive. I have to think about this more...

Oh yes you did!
Knowing it is 50mi drive was one thing; experiencing that drive, another

The place itself was lovely. The people were SO NICE, that drive along hwy 98 peaceful and gorgeous, the "condo" (that term is used very loosely here) tiny and cute, but the drive from TH...I hated it, it stressed me out.

If I were rich and could helicopter in/out now that'd be divine

What exactly did you hate about the drive, and what stressed you out about it? I know it's a LONG drive, but surely the traffic wasn't bad? How often do you think you'd need to travel to Tallahassee? Once a month? If you liked everything else about Carrabelle, I don't know if the drive should be a deal-breaker

Hi mollybg!
(spent 3hr volunteering at the shelter in Eastpoint, the dogs were delightful )
the drive was on 2-lane country roads, scary to me. LOOOONG stretches of it, like 20mi stretches between anything but woods, like to a gas station or bathroom or food.
I get nervous in desolate areas

Traffic? Gawd no. It felt like I was allll alooone out there (from TH).
Hwy 98, (by Carrabelle I mean) a lovely drive, NO traffic there and that was awesome and peaceful.

My car is 14 years old with 143,000mi and I maintain it like a neurotic nut (which I am) so it lasts, and I'm factoring in having to replace it in say 2-3 years if I move to such a place.

That said. Exactly, how often would I have to go to TH, really?
That's what I'm mulling over. Certainly not to shop. I hate shopping. Dentist, vet, mechanic, hair salon, those are all places I'd go every few months, not weeks.

I dunno. Am thinking. Input welcome!

I hate that drive too. And the more you do it the longer it feels. Definitely the biggest downside of living in the Carrabelle / Apalach area. If you don't care about groceries you won't need to get up to Tallahassee very often.

Keep in mind, you can order a lot of things online from places like Wal-Mart and Amazon. Even basics and food like laundry detergent, Gatorade and such.

Dentist, hair salon, vet, car mechanic. You will likely find a place much closer than Tallahassee.

Also realize that 1 hr drive is really not that bad. Many people commute 1 hour each way to/from work 5 days per week. The fact that you have light traffic makes it easier. Though it seems you have a fear of wooded empty roads. Get yourself a reliable car and learn how to change a flat tire. And drive during the day. And keep a cell phone, good shoes and bottled water in your car. LOL, and a tent in case you get stuck out there for 3 days. OK - I am messing with you now

Piggly Wiggly supermarket in Apalachicola carries Boars' Head meat!

Also in East Point there is Big Top supermarket which is full service supermarket.

Plus you will have Dollar General Store in Carabelle which has milk, bread, eggs as well as lot of other foods .
