I bought a new home in Port Charlotte and the area is totally overrun with snowbirds now. It is difficult to go out for dinner, park anyplace, go to a cinema or even park at the grocery. The place is literally crawling with people and they are not necessarily polite. So ... I've had enought after only 5 short years and I am leaving.

I am willing to build one more new home, ~ 3000 s.f. in a good area. Tallahassee looks promising but land is difficult to find in 2+ acre sizes. I have looked diligently for two months and haven't had much luck. I have a couple of questions.

1. What general area should I be looking for property (retired and not worried about working)?

2. Does the area get a big influx of snowbirds in late fall through spring?

Thanks !

I live in Jefferson County (25 miles east of Tallahassee). Plenty of land available, nice area, low taxes.
Tallahassee doesn't have many snow birds, just a bunch of students and politicians. We prefer to do our "big city" shopping and dining in Thomasville, GA, which is 25 miles north of us. Of course there are more options in Tallahassee, and the traffic is still considerably less than what you probably endure in Port Charlotte.
Hope this helps

Yes - thank you. I have diligently looked for property to build a nice home on and can't come up with any. Looked again today in Jefferson Co. and came up dry.

I know there are 2 different 5 acre parcels for sale on my road. Maybe they aren't being advertised on-line?
I don't know the names of any local realtors, but maybe you could a search and then contact the realtors directly?
I love living here but it is a small town and the realtors might not be as diligent about posting properties on-line as perhaps a big city realtor might be

Wakulla Co should have some land available. And you would be closer to the beach.

Thanks ... give me the name of he road and zip code please and I can find it.

5 acres of wooded or semi wooded property would be perfect.

Casa Bianca Road, 32344. I've also seen signs along Waukeenah Highway, also 32344.
