Hello everyone, found this page looking for info on tallahase and there lot of info but i still have some question and looking for more opinions based on people

Little background,

We are a marry Puertorican couples in our late 20s ( i am 28, wife is 25). My wife is finishing up her master degree in nurse practicioner on late october, and i work on medical manufacturing but dream is opening a cafeteria and deli. We like to go to the beach a lot, we dont worry about the weather we are tropical but also we love mountain and green so we saw tallahasse has a little of both world
We live in naples fl but we find a little expensive for our taste although the housing market is getting up and our house have good equity (time to sell it). But we want new adventures so we tought tallahase and pensacola too

My question are simples
How is the housing market and house tax
How is the insurances (car, house, medical)
How are the people, is there is night life because we like to dress up and go out some times or enjoy a good romantic dinners
Good places to work?
How are the schools? ( no baby but soon)
Good areas to check the hosing market that fits us

Thanks every one

I'm fairly new to the area, but you are correct about the beaches. I don't know about having mountains, but the city is very hilly and has many beautiful trees.

I live in an area called Midtown. It is one of the most charming neighborhoods I've seen and I've lived in Green Bay, WI, Houston, TX, Jacksonville, FL and now here. The people are just plain friendly and wonderful. Midtown is full of cute little craftsman style bungalows. Many have beautiful yards. We're close to just about anything.

Being a college town, many of the restaurants are chains, catering to students. There are a couple of fine dining places that I know of; Bella Bella looks great and there's another one called Table 23 (I think) that I'm dying to try.

As far as insurances, Florida is Florida. I don't think you'd see any change. (Except people drive crazy here and there are a gazillion one way streets. Look out! Some will all of a sudden turn into a two way.)

As far as jobs go, I work in staffing, but most of my people go to work in general labor jobs. The State and City have work, but what I've noticed with the State is the pay scale is such a WIDE range. For instance, I saw an opening for a maintenance mechanic. The pay was $12.00 per hour. I interviewed for a Human Resource position that started at $41,000. My fiance was with the State for almost 20 years and depending on which department you're with, you'll really love your job or want to go home and drink heavily every night. That's just one person's opinion though. I am assuming you're bi-lingual. That is a plus!

Keep an eye on Florida State and Florida A&M. If possible, dust off your resume and make appointments with places like Kelly Services or Man Power Int'l. (If they have offices here.)

We have two hospitals here and I've not heard anything bad about either. Tallahassee Memorial Hospital is centrally located.

I think you and your wife would love it here. Keep us posted about your decisions and I hope the long time locals chime in soon.

I think a lot of people move to Tallahassee from South Florida looking for a more livable city with better parks, a nicer city, good schools, and plenty of recreation and things to do.

Its an incredible city.

It has great medical care, top universities and colleges, and it has a growing economy.

Its a wonderful place to live.

Look at Southwood, Midtown, Buck Lake, Lakeshore, Killearn, OxBottom, for nice neighborhoods.

State and city work is plentiful. You'll have a secure job and benefits but, a just decent enough wage compared to similar work in the private sector. However, even low end positions at the state pay a living wage.

Tallahassee has a ton of parks. Everyone I know has their favorites and after being here for 4 years, I'm still discovering new ones. Cascades and Lake Ella are super popular. Governor's Park is my favorite as it's just hills, mowed grass and trees (now that the mansion is gone).

The cool thing about Tallahassee is that while it's not a big city, it has at least 1 location of most chain restaurants and businesses in the southeast. Mid-town has some nice local places to dine, good for couples.

The public schools in Leon county are some of the highest graded in the state.

The weather here is beautiful 6 months out of the year but, almost unbearable the other 6. Like Orlando we lack a waterfront to be cooled off by. July and August it's usually 100'F or near it every day. By mid October, things improve dramatically as we get Autumn before the rest of the state does and the city's weather is wonderful in November.
