There is a possibility that my wife, daughter (13), and I will be moving to Tallahassee. I've never been there, but the opportunity for us might be difficult to pass up in terms of salary and career. We currently live in a very walkable neighborhood in Wisconsin with excellent public schools. My daughter can safely walk to school on her own. We hope we can find something similar wherever we move. There seem to be some decent public schools in Tallahassee, but are any of them in pleasant, walkable neighborhoods. I really can't imagine us living happily in a car-dependent suburban area no matter how good the public schools are considered to be.

Hello, yes there are some great neighborhoods that are walkable for school children. Check out Bucklake, Killearn, Southwood.

Another good idea is Midtown. There you have access to Cobb middle school and Leon High school. Midtown is a very up and coming, safe walkable neighborhood.

Thanks! This is useful. It looks like Midtown might be the best bet for us, but those other areas you mention are places I diid not know about and they seem kind of interesting.

If we move, it will probably be during the summer. Things are still up in the air, though.

We moved to Gainesville. That's where the job opportunity came through.

my kids went to kate sullivan (elementary) cobb(middle) and leon. I love it for myself and them. Cobb and Kate Sullivan area right next to each other and they are small enough that you can really enjoy the area.. We will walk over there on weekends.. I love an older school with culture
