I am a young professional who has basically narrowed a job search down to 2 places. Tallahassee or Little Rock.

Both seem liked reasonably good options.

My wife felt like Tallahassee is a bit more of a melting pot. It seemed like the majority of folks we met in Little Rock grew up in Arkansas. Her concern is that it might be harder to fit in there.

I would love to hear any insight offered.

Tallahassee is probably a better bet. For starters, you cant beat the sunshine and warmth of Florida. Tallahassee is beautiful with many hills and canopy roads.

You can also go to the beach in under an hour if you so choose.

I've never been to Little Rock, but I am very familiar with Tallahassee.

I only have good things to say about it. It's just a beautiful city.

It is a bit of a meltig pot, being that it is Florida. Most people in Tally are probably from Florida as well, but Florida might as well be three different states in terms of culture. People from Miami, Orlando, and Tallahassee may as well be from three different states.

Florida is one of the largest states in the country. Arkansas is a small southern state.

I think city to city probably not vastly different. Although Florida is not thought of as "Southern" Tallahassee is very deep South. It is physically removed from the larger cities in the state but the size of the state and the population keep Florida and Tallahassee from being a "good ol' boy" state capital like Little Rock, Arkansas.... with that being said any state capital is filled with nepotism

This is a tough one. Little Rock offers more as a city, but Tallahassee is in a much better location, near the beach and other amenities that Florida offers. Despite Florida being much more liberal overall than Arkansas, my bet would be that Little Rock is more liberal than Tallahassee. If the beach and being an easy drive from Orlando is attractive to you, I would probably go Tallahassee. Otherwise, I would go Little Rock.

Your wife is right about Little Rock. I went for a visit there and didn't like it, and I'm a Southerner. Never been to Tally, but St Pete where I'm at is diverse. That's changing though due to all of the development. The place has been discovered! Tally is probably more settled in that regard.

Trust me, Little Rock is not liberal. They have an active bar scene downtown and some music venues, but that does not make it feel liberal at all. It's Arkansas.

Actually, city to city can sometimes be vastly different. Before moving to St Pete I lived in Daytona and it was rednecks, tea party Republicans, bikers, NASCAR, rude east coast Yankees, fundamentalist Christians, all that. St Pete is a liberal paradise in comparison. I actually don't like Florida but do like St Pete. My experiences with living in capital cities including Wash D.C. has not been good.
