Hi - I have a job offer from a company that is established in Perry, FL. I've been told that is a small town so I want to have some input from locals. I am a single woman who is looking for a safe place. I currently live in Alexandria, VA...pretty close to Washington DC.

I would appreciate any help!

Not much there - I've driven through it a few times and knew a couple of people from there. The things I have heard about it aren't that great.

Also, it would be a tremendous culture shock moving from metro DC to Perry.

Can you be more specific on the things that you have heard? I would appreciate your honesty

Lati...... Its a tiny town, If you can live on the outskirts and convert your lifestyle to country living then you should be fine..

However... besides Walmart there is not much there.

You can drive 45 minutes in to Tallahassee, or A little longer to get to Gainesville.

The town is very redneck, and racist though.

THere are good people there... but like I said, its going to be a culture shock unless you keep to yourself, and enjoy living in the woods.

Lati 85-I used to live in Alexandria when I was in the military. Listen to me. Do not move to Perry Florida or in fact anywhere north of Orlando. Trust me. It is like plunging into the depths of hell.

Airbornedoc has some extreme views against Tallahassee, so consider the source (by the way, Perry is about 50 miles southeast of TLH - the two places differ significantly).

Having said that, Perry has a reputation as a very backwards place -- unless you absolutely need a job, you can find much better places to live or work.

Lati. I am a native of the Panhandle. DO NOT MOVE TO PERRY if you like the feel of the DC area at all. It is basically a tiny redneck middle of nowhere town. 7,000 people according to the internets, which is next to nothing. My hometown had 12,000 and we just got a Walmart in 2010.

I have driven through it exactly one time with my (also redneck) family on a road trip. It is now infamous to us as the place that sells fishing licenses and welding "hats" at the gas station, and the KFC advertises catfish. Yeah.

Just curious, what industry do you work in that has a location in Perry?
