Planned on moving to Orlando but not really finding what we are looking for and need something very soon (within the next 3 weeks for sure). Thinking of trying out Tally for a while instead. Here's what we would need as far as location we'd prefer:

Safety is #1 priority

No more than 10-15 minutes from grocery and shopping

Must have high speed or at least decent internet available for my business

Preferably an AMC within 15-20 minutes (ok not a priority but it would be nice, we love movies and want to stick to watching them at AMC LOL)

Schools are not a priority, both kids have recently graduated

I work from home so jobs are not a top priority but may pick up some PT work so being close to retail jobs would be a plus. Having things close enough to walk to or being on a bus line, would also be a plus but not necessary, I do have a car.

Kids would prefer a house vs an apt or townhouse, I'm fine with either. Would prefer at least a 3/2. Could make do with a 2/2 as long as it wasn't too small. Would prefer a garage (which bumps out most apts) since there is so much car crime in FL. Don't need a busted window because someone wants to riffle through my car.

I've been looking on Zillow and prices seem a lot cheaper than Orlando which is great. I'm thinking $800-$1,000 for a rental budget, I may push it to $1200 but it would have to be the absolute perfect place and location for that and I haven't found I like enough on Zillow yet. In Dr. Phillips I was prepared to pay up to $1850 but I was getting all the theme parks within minutes, since I won't be getting that benefit in Tally, I am not willing to pay that price. DP is about the only place I'd pay that price LOL

Any suggestions to narrow down an area? Also anything fun to look forward to around Tally in the fall/winter? Do they do anything around Christmas or anything? We were planning on spending the holidays at the theme parks but since we won't be doing that this year I'm trying to think of something else fun to do. Will be our first holiday season away from family so it may be a little hard.

Check out Killearn, Buck Lake, Midtown.

We have an Amc theater here.

Tally is great. Especially for families

Is it the one at the Tallahassee Mall? or is there another AMC? Thanks for the areas, I'll check them out. I do have a couple of houses in Klllearn saved, that looks like a nice subdivision, may be what we are looking for. Thanks

Yes, the Tallahassee mall is dead. The new owners renamed it the Centre of Tallahassee, but the shopping center is kind of dead still.

Now they are planning to lease the mall space to State Government, however the theater is still really nice, and open, and was renovated like 3 years ago.

CMX Cinemas at fallschase is state of the art and opened this year near buck lake.

Betton Hills is nice, check at lafayette park, los robles, waverly hills, myers park.

If they lease the mall space to the gov. will they be taking out all the stores that are in the mall and shut it down? Don't want to move by it if they aren't going to have it there. That would be one of the spots the girls would look for some PT work around the holidays. We'll look around a different area if there isn't going to be any local stores left there. Need to be close by since we only have one car. Don't plan on buying another anytime soon.

Yea that mall is essentially dead. Look at Killearn lots of restaurants and retail there near I-10.

Governors square mall on appalachee parkway is the only real mall we have now.

Tallahassee mall might be kinda dead, but there are tons of businesses all around that area. I used to live in orlando and from what you're describing as your fit, Tallahassee is waaaaay better. You can still make short trips to the theme parks whenever you get the feeling.

Anyways, I'm a home inspector so if you have questions about some of the places you are looking at, give me a call.
