My husband has received an offer that would require relocation to Tallahassee from the Birmingham, AL area. We are very concerned about crime and getting in an area with good schools.

We have been seeing that the Killearn Lakes area is the best, but it is pretty much out of our price range. Are there other areas that are safe with decent schools that aren't as expensive? We are in our early 30s with a 2 y/o and want to get into an area that will grow with our family.

What is that area between Magnolia and Blairstone Road (with all those Indian names that you can't pronounce or remember) like these days?

I would stick with areas in the north/northeast/east or Southwood.

The Tallahassee crime rates don't paint a true picture. Unless you are buying drugs or decide to live in an area with a high crime rate, you have nothing to worry about.

These are excellent suggestions for a local southern family. They would fit right in. A lot of state workers live there, and it's close to good schools.
