Do most people living in the Tallahassee vacinity, use the local airport or drive to alternate airports. Somehow I'm guessing they do, but I doubt there are shuttles to say Jax.

When i looked on the TLH website, I find the airport only serves a few closer hub airports. Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte and a couple of Fla cities. There is a DC flight there also, I imagine because of the state capital in Tallahassee. Yet it doesn't serve Chicago or Denver I actually find that strange, since with the local population figures. Generally an airline would serve the Tallahassee market from those cities.

So I'm guess the ticket prices, are going to be higher to much higher flying out of TLH. So do people just pay it, or fly out elsewhere?

Flying into Tallahassee isn’t that expensive actually. Buy your tickets 6 weeks in advance to get the best deals and use google flights to track prices.

Follow fare skies on Facebook which posts cheap flights to and from Tallahassee.

Some people drive and fly from other airports but you often don’t end up saving any money.

Reason being, money is time. And considering parking fees and gas, who wants to drive 2-4 hours, pay for parking and gas, when all you have to do is buy your tickets 6 weeks in advance and your gonna have a comparable price.

Really depends on where you want to go.
TLH is weird. There ARE some great rates, but usually not to where I want to go....lol

Most of the people I know drive to Jacksonville or Atlanta airports for specific destinations, usually north like Chicago, etc.

The price difference is significant, like $200 round-trip from JAX vs $600 from TLH. So it's worth the 3 hour drive (for me). YMMV

When I am booking a flight, I check JAX, TLH, ATL and VLD and make my plans according to price and convenience, etc. ATL is often the least expensive, but it's also the longest drive from the Tallahassee area. JAX usually wins out, but occasionally, depending on destination, TLH is the best choice, cost and convenience-wise.

If money was no object, I'd always fly out of TLH. It is a lovely airport. Fairly small, well organized, easy to navigate.

Thanks for your replies and comments. Unfortunately airports the size of TLH generally charge higher fares. Personally I think TLH a city pushing 200,000 pop, should have better air service by this time.

It had better air service with more flights and destinations 30+ years ago when it was much smaller, prior to deregulation. There were no commuter jets either, it was all 727's and DC-9's. National Airlines actually flew 727's to Jax, Panama City and Pensacola back then - as well as to Houston and New Orleans. Of course the concourse was open air, and there were no jetways.

I’ve found it cheaper in ECP (Panama City) so if you’re west of Tallahassee it’s another viable option

I wish people would be loyal to their local airport and quit driving to surrounding areas.
