I currently live on the Treasure coast and I like it here but I am considering moving north now while I am still young enough (low 60s) to handle the move. My sister lives in GA and we would see each other more if it weren't a 10 hour drive.
What can you all tell me about living in north Tallahassee? I don't need a lot of entertainment, just a few restaurants, and close proximity to supermarkets and Lowes. I like the 'burbs, not too city and not too country.
Those of you who live or have lived in the area, please share your thoughts with me. Thanks.

I think you will love it.

Tallahassee has good healthcare, higher education, access to an abundance of parks and greenways, beautiful trees and rolling hills.

Its pretty much the nicest city in Florida in my opinion, that hasn't been destroyed buy clear cutting and over-development. Its very balanced, and an easy place to live.

Just moved back to Tallahassee to retire after living near Tampa for the last 9 years (I am also in the early to mid 60’s). I find the traffic is better, the people are nice, the area is gorgeous surroundings Tallahassee. There are a lot of restaurants with varying cuisines. I found easier access to health care. There are the normal suspects of grocery and hardware stores ( for Florida) and Aldi’s just opened. Shopping is not as good though as outside of Tampa and there are not as many festivals or quick access to the gulf. There is a lot of things to do centered around sports and the universities. It is a bit more liberal politically. Of course everything is quieter due to Covid but it is opening up.

I love Tally we went there a lot just past 2000, oldest daughter with husband lived there for about 5 yrs due to his employment...

I fell in love with the Area, we lived in the Suncoast ( about 2.5 mls from Indian Rocks Beach) 17 yrs then in 1988 relocated in Miami were we remain..

All the trips from Miami to Tally those 5 yrs, I looked forward to and I really would have moved there, the wife did not care for the Area, I surelly did.

I'd move there in a heartbeat, maybe when Mother in Law (She lives with Us) underHome Care passes, she's slowly dying with no turn back, I can convince the wife to move there. Maybe then she might agree.

It's colder than my area and hotter and gets much more rain. I would rather live in Dixie county.

I don’t live in Tallahassee anymore but lived there for about 3 years. One thing you might want to think about living there is that allergies are absolutely horrible. I’ve lived in several areas of Florida (from Tampa, also lived in the Jax area) and had more people taking sick days from allergies than I’ve had anywhere else. People would have trouble opening their eyes due to gunk and have other issues. Even people who don’t have allergies normally found that they have allergic issues there. It is something to consider.

I don’t particularly like it there because I like more to do, but it is very pretty and affordable. The allergies are the only issue I’d urge everyone to consider.

There I would most definetely never be without a mask..I remember finding our vehicles covered with a mustard yellow coat of powder every AM...you would hose it down and a yellow stream went down the driveway....But I would MOST definetely move there if the wife did want to do it too...
