Heres my dilemna- I would love to hear your thoughts. I am moving from Colorado to either Valpo in northern Indiana near Chicago, or FSU. The FSU program is a bit better, but also more money. I am a 25 year old single male who isnt much into nightlife, but do like to meet people every so often. I used to live in NC, didnt care for the southern life all that much- but could deal with it.

So all in all, what are the pros and cons of FSU and the city in general? Thanks for any help you can offer. In addition, I am a school social worker, so how are the jobs etc in that area as well? (Maybe not specifically, but just in general even).

Default Not a fan of Tallahassee

Well let me share my thoughts as a LCSW who works in the public school system in Miami and a mother with a daughter at FSU. I also have a daughter starting in the fall at CU and one who will be a senior next year. I am actually moving to Colorado next summer. Can't wait to get out of Miami! I have been on a lot of college visits, from Fl. to Ca. this summer So here's my thoughts on the town of Tallahassee and F.S.U. I am not a fan of the town, especially around the University. I think there are many sleezy places and it is dirty! There is not a lot to do culturally, etc. so the only thing left is partying. I know this goes on at all colleges, but I think FSU is worse than most! I know FSU does have a good Social Work program, but a degree is a degree when it comes to social work. Nobody cares where you graduated from. Being licenced is important, whatever state you are in.
Hope this helps

I think this is a great point. For most jobs/careers it doesn't matter where you went to school, it just matters if you have the paper or not. If you can save a lot of money by going to one school over another, why not go that route, so that when you get out of school you have less if any bills from school.

Another one that didn't get more than 1 mile from campus.

You missed 95% of the city.

My husband and I recently relocated from NC (Raleigh) to FSU for grad school. It depends on what part of NC you lived in, but this is much more southern than Raleigh/Durham or Charlotte. It's also MUCH smaller, so there are a limited # of things to do here.

My suggestion: Get involved on campus. There are intramurals, organizations, grad school events, etc. There are off-campus things to do (parks, lakes, city pools).

What specifically are you interested in doing? Perhaps that would help me identify things in the area.
