I rent an apartment which has water included, we moved here in June of this year from Michigan and our utilities were a bit of a culture shock

All in all though with a family of 3 in a 1100 sq ft apartment our bills were as follows:

Air set at 78-80 we paid approx 230.00 a month from June - sept
Gas- 17.00-20.00 because who needs hot water when the tap runs so warm? we sure didn't being snowbirds haha.

Everyone is different and it's all in how you "try" to be efficient. We will be turning on our water heater very soon due to colder mornings and the shock effect in the shower

We love you Florida and thanks for making these Snow people thaw! lol

You are paying so much! I was paying that much on city utilities too. Are you on City of Tallahassee?

Get on Talquin!

It seems that the cost of Talquin are substantially less than the City of Tallahassee.

Does anybody know or have any idea where to find the delineation between properties that use Talquin and Tallahassee utilities?

It's basically NW tallahassee. If you use google maps, type in Talquin's address which is 4508 Portal Dr, Tallahassee FL, 32303 and then search for apartments that are in that vicinity. I believe I-10 is the cutoff.

Utilities in Tallahassee are the highest in the state because of all the services charges, fuel adjustments, taxes on the taxes, not because of cost per KW. Expect to pay $200 per month average for 1200 sq ft. Grad students: the closest, safest place to live near F.S.U. is in the Mission San Luis area and just north of there.

Talquin is barely less per kwh than Tallahassee. The problem is that I am quite certain the meters are wrong. There is no way that we are using as much power as they claim. Soon I will buy my own meter and hook it behind theirs.

Angry Tallahassee "Skyrocketing" Utilities

These city's utilities has to be the worse I have ever seen. Utilities range from 150-300 dollars a month (even higher). How outrageous!

We are on Talquin electric, water and sewer. For our 2,400 square foot house with five occupants and two A/C units we average about $250 per month.

I live in Killearn Lakes in a 3 BR, 2 BA house, which is under Talquin Electric. It is just over 1300 square feet. We just received our utitlity bill. It is $437. We keep the air conditioner set on 75 degrees, and we are heavily shaded by trees. I use only cold water to wash clothes, and I only run the dishwasher when it is completely full. I do everything I can think of to keep the bill down. I've even started unplugging things if it's not in use. We were told that we could expect $200 utility bills. I call BS. We used to live in Sable Chase in a house that was 1900 square feet with no shade and high ceilings. Our utility bill (includes water) was the same as it is here. Talquin is no better than the city. The utilities in Tallahassee is just RIDICULOUS. Wasteful usage? No - just a family of four living as frugally as possible.

That bill is really high -- it's double what we pay, and we're in a larger place (1500 sqft), but then we're only two people. We keep the temp at 77 degrees all day and all night, supplemented with ceiling fans. Have you had an energy audit? We have city utilities and the city came and did a free energy audit for us. They said we needed more attic insulation, and they paid part of the cost of adding insulation.
