I lived in Tallahassee twenty years ago. It was nice back then but I left when I found a job after Graduate School. I remember Tallahassee as the best town in Florida back then and very inexpensive. I liked the rolling land and the nice wooded neighborhoods. They said it had some crime but it was all in the southern part of town and I stayed away from those neighborhoods.

How has Tallahassee changed since the mid 80s, other than having more people? Is it a mess now like the rest of the State?

Crime has gotten worse in Tallahassee. Supposedly, Tallahassee is more dangerous than Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville (where I live) and Orlando. Murders currently stand at 20, so at the current pace, Tallahassee could see 35-40 homicides by year's end.

I lived in Tallahassee as recently as 2009, and it was still a great place to live.

It’s a great place to live. Don’t live in fear because of the bad side of town. It’s beautiful you should come back.

There are still way too many trees for this place to have gone down hill.

Tallahassee is one of the nicest cities in all of Florida.

4 seasons, great parks and greenways, great colleges, and access to the coast just 45 minutes away.

Its quickly growing, but its hills, trees, and great people will make you want to become a resident.

Come check us out.

Is it popular with retirees? How is medical care there?

Tallahassee grew a lot in the years that I lived there. I went to FSU for graduate school while working.
I was at the state for 9 years. The outskirts on the east and north side seemed to be growing. But
the west side on route 20 seemed kind of static without a lot of businesses. FSU itself has grown
a lot with the new medical school. When I first got there in 2002 it was just an isolated 1-story
building on campus but is now a major multi-floor, multi-wing structure with security. I left Tallahassee
in early 2017 and returned to Phoenix.

I think Tallahassee is great for local southerners with strong roots in the panhandle or for young
college students of ages 18-22. But for others it can be too much of a mismatch culturally, religiously,
and demographically. I am much better off in Phoenix and have been euphoric since I returned to
my home state. Every now and then I see a FL license plate in the Phoenix roads and get flashbacks
of Tallahassee from a previous phase in my life - the "Florida Era".

I heard Tallahassee got snow, but it was nothing compared to the hike I did above 10,000 feet
recently with massive amounts of snow on the trail in Aspen trees and Alpine vegetation a day's
drive from here. I loved it.
