I made a post back in march talking about visiting and moving to tally and i can happily say we accomplished both! we visited for a week in april, loved it, and promptly found a place to rent. we've been here for going on a week.

can anyone recommend an affordable place for groceries? moving from a cold northern town with high produce prices and not much else besides a walmart, there has to be some other options here. so far i've been recommended winn-dixie which i plan to check out.

where on earth do i find a watermelon for under $5? or are farmer's markets my only option?

thanks guys!

Hello, Nocoldweather, I'm a native from here , to let you know first, and Other than Wal-Marts, Targets, And Kmarts, I think you should try stores like, Fresh Market on Village Sq Blvd off Thomasville rd. You also should try the Farmers Market "Market Sqaure" on Timberlane rd. I don't believe there are "Publix"s up north but here there are, and Publix is the my all time favorite place to shop low prices. Hope I helped.

The only other major grocery store after Publix would be Winn-Dixie. As far as cheap produce goes, you could always check out Flea Market Tallahassee on the weekends.

If you look around town, on your way out of town on 319 (thomasville) rd past Chiles high school they are usually people selling fresh produce on the side of the road..

There are also stores like Fresh Market, New leaf market, and Earthfare will be opening here this winter..

Publix has a decent selection as well..

There are little produce stands all around town as well.

Publix is top notch in terms of quality and selection. Their prices can be higher than places like Winn-Dixie, but if you shop the sales right, you can come out with some great deals.

Is there any stores that are equivalent to Aldi?

We are new to the area (a few months) and we also like Harveys on the NW corner of Tennessee and Capital Circle. We mix it up between Publix, Walmart and Harveys (Winn Dixie seems too far away from our normal path to and from Lake Talquin)
