I have just moved here, and thought I made a pretty good decision. I checked the area out before moving here and it seemed like a nice, laid back area.

Unfortunately, after living here for a month, I have learned why the downtown area seems so laid back.

It seems that all the businesses want to rip you off. I had been frequenting a mom-n-pop store on 3rd av south(Palm Bay Grocery) for a couple weeks, when I noticed they had been overcharging me on every purchace. After my last purchase I called them on it, and the clerk(owner) told me that Pinellas county had a tax on food items, which is BS.

And earlier today, I had a coupon from Central Deli/Milano's Pizza (660 Central Av) for a Buy 1 Large pizza for $10.99 and get one free. The total wound up being about $18. When I called the store and mentioned the discrepancy between the coupon price and the actual total, the guy actually said to me "Did you expect to get a free pizza?"

I guess I should have known. 2 months ago when I checked out of my hotel room(Palm Bay Hotel, 711 3rd Av S,) and asked for my $15 key deposit back I was told it was an 'application fee'. Funny, when I first paid for the room it was called a 'deposit'.

Beware of St. Pete's Downtown!!

Palm bay is owned and operated by someone who does not know what being a human being is. He will keep raising the price on the room. For the price your going to pay might as well stay in a well known hotel. Ex. Hampton, Holiday Inn, etc. Place has Bed bugs, roaches and bugs that i have no names for. No hot water (maybe for 4 hours a day!) And water pressure is horrible, the wifi is so bad not even worth connecting to and the staff is rude and don't know what customer service is. Paying almost 300$ a week and you have to deal with all and more of the above. Do yourself a favor and never stay here...save your moneyFor the price your going to pay might as well stay in a well known hotel. Ex.
