I sincerely hope this thread does not turn into an alligators are evil discussion. We are on their turf, not the the other way around. Left to their own devices they run away from people. Those that don't have been made that way by being fed scraps by people when they are young. Respect them from afar and everything should be fine. You're far more likely to be injured in a car accident than by an alligator.

I absolutely agree. I am in no way saying that alligators are evil. This IS their turf. They DO belong here. No one has any reason to fear them obviously like I said, we are and have been living among them. I am just curious to hear stories of people. I am a paranoid mom that is all and I am not trying to spread fear. Yes I know that car accidents, lightening, etc. are much more of a real danger.

When we first moved here to florida, ( my husband is from this area), I was fascinated by them. Loved them in fact, no fears, but as my babies have become much more mobile and active my overactive worrying mind takes over, same with fearing sharks in the ocean. I grew up swimming in deep ocean waters, probably surrounded by sharks unknowingly. So ultimately I understand that my fears are probably ridiculous, but still it is interesting to hear of peoples experiences. That is what this forum is for, to share our stories, opinions. Make up your own mind in the end = )

Are there a lot of alligators in Lettuce Lake? I'm going to be living near there and seems like it would be a nice place to hang out and watch alligators and other assorted animals from time to time.

I have been watching Gator 911 which is on CMT. I highly recommend anyone who is fearful of alligators to watch a few episodes of this show. After watching a couple episodes is has pretty much eliminated my over reactive fear of gators.
