Moving to St Pete in October. Where to live? (Sarasota: to rent, condos)

I am going to be moving from Ft Myers, FL to St Pete in October 2010. I am 25, and a single mother with 3-year-old twins. I am moving to St Pete because my son has autism and, there seems to be more services and resources for kids with autism out there than in Ft Myers.

I need to live as far South as possible, and close to 275 w/o being in "Da hood" because, I will be working in Sarasota. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to rent a single family home or a townhome. The max I can pay in rent is $1000/mth...I need at the very least a 2 bed.

I lived in 33705 (East-south side) for 3 months....'nough said LOL. Actually, it was really due to mold issues...so with that being said, I'd stay as far away from Waterside at Coquina Key as possible. The townhomes are going to look very appealing to you when looking at pictures and prices...I advise against it, though, based on my personal experience. We now live in 33707, which is Gulfport (West-south side.) There are definitely areas in Gulfport to stay away from, but you're so close being in Ft. Meyers that you can always come and check things out before you move. We made a "blind" move from Indiana into 33705. I will always think twice about blind moves after that experience. I can't help too much with your price point, our 1B/1B in Seaside Villas is $1099, but I've seen townhomes out this direction. You also might look into Pinellas Point, though again, I do not know what kind of prices are in that area. When we were looking for this place, I noticed that some of the condos in Tierra Verde that were 2B were priced VERY reasonable. And that is such a nice area. So you may look at that area.

Thank You very much. I was looking at Pinealls Point but I noticed that, that is in South St Pete, and I have been hearing that South St Pete is a TERRIBLE place to live. I know every city has its bad areas but if pinealls point is one of the nicer areas just has some bad areas around it, I will consider it.

Pinellas Point as a whole, is actually a very nice area. Most of the communities on the coast are, not all but most. A lot of people will say avoid South St. Pete like the plague, but it's not ALL bad really. Pinellas Point, South Pasadena, a lot of Gulfport, are all "technically" South St. Pete, but they're all pretty nice areas. Tierra Verde is also very nice, expensive, but nice. And no one would say it was in south St. Pete lol.

I used to rent on 4th Street North and it was very nice. Convenient to shopping, good food, etc.

Gulfport and South Pasadena aren't St. Pete at all. They are their own separate and functioning municipalities. That being said, Pinellas Point is a very nice area.
