For anyone interested in the comparable crime rates in various cities in Florida compared to other cities in the nation, I think you may find this site interesting.

I'm not trying to criticize Tampa, but it does provide some credibility to some of the anecdotal complaints heard on this forum.

However, if you compare Tampa to Moderator cut: link to a competitors site removed Tampa looks pretty good.

This should make Tampans feel good; Moderator cut: link to a competitors site removed] is crime central.

Compared to Atlanta, any place looks pretty good.

I learned the hard way that Tampa is not a safe city when I got mugged. However, if you know about the city's neighborhoods, and if you're in the right place, it isn't too bad.

very true.

I lived in Atlanta back in the early 90's, and then moved there again back in 2003. What a mistake. It had totally changed from what I had remembered the first time.
Places like Buckhead and Underground, were not the same. Both are very dangerous now because of all the thugs.

You are correct, anyplace is better than Atlanta, except maybe Detroit or Camden.

I was there recently on business, I rode the MARTA... put on my shades with my hardest look (difficult to look too hard with your luggage) I DID NOT LIKE THE ATL... the MARTA was a getto filled... I went to Buckhead and I could not get comfortable... I couldn't wait to leave ATL...

Atlanta is a great town and has so much to offer, not even counting employment. I live in Cobb County and I know which neighborhoods to stay away from. People who bash Atlanta don't know this town. You would need to live here for a while to appreciate the friendly people and the beautiful, safe neighborhoods.
