SAY IT AIN'T SO! Well, nothing is set in stone yet.

The wife and I are coming down in Nov. (from Seattle) to take a look at St. Petes & Tampa areas and I must say that this forum has been helpful on what areas to look at. We're going to be staying 5 days getting a feel if Tampa Bay will be our next home or not. From random people my wife and I have talked to, they've enjoyed the area a lot but moved away due to jobs &/or family.

So we have the plane tickets, but no place to stay yet. I was surprised to see, in this economy, that prices for hotels/bed & break/etc are still somewhat pricey in the Tampa Bay region. I don't know if it's because you're one of the few states that is still warm during the winter and hike the prices for people trying to get the beautiful natural heat or what.

With that said, can anyone recommend a cheap/safe: room-for-rent, b&b, or hostel? I must admit I'm reluctant to stay in a hostel though. I just want a cheap and safe place where we can leave our goods while being on the road checking out all the different neighborhoods and what not. If I was single and didn't have to worry about my SO, I'd stay wherever.

Maybe you, a friend or relative, have a guest room that you wouldn't mind renting out for 4 nights/5 days while making some extra $. Or maybe you and your SO stayed at some awesome getaway that cost a little extra but was worth it. Either way, any help is appreciated.

Can you give us an idea of what you're looking to pay? That would make the search a bit easier.

Hey there stewabby.

I guess I should have mentioned that. I'm trying to find a place where it's $25 - $35 a night in a fun & safe location. I know that seems a bit unrealistic, but one income for two people stretches you pretty thin. Plus, we still have to rent a car to travel everywhere.

I just looked at Priceline and it looks like you can get a decent two star hotel in Tampa for about $35.00. Have you tried that?
