bridges (Tampa, Clearwater, Spring Hill: construction, live in, shop)

i hate driving over bridges and high over passes... me and my wife where thinking of clear water and safty harour area.. do i ever need to dirve over them i mean i would shop and play in my area..

There is water all around here and there are a lot of bridges aswell. You could live in Clearwater or Saftey Harbor without ever driving over a bridge, but it could become very inconvenient at times. Especially if you ever had to go to Tampa or just wanted to go to the beach.

If you don't like bridges, don't even get close to driving on the Sunshine Skyway where you'll have h20 and a lot of elevation/height. There's no turning back once you get on it.

The overland route from Pinellas to Tampa is very inconvenient if you're coming from anywhere other than East Lake/Oldsmar/Safety Harbor/Palm Harbor areas.

How many lanes on that Skyway Buc? Ive been under it, cruise ship, but I dont think I'd drive across it. I am one of those "hate bridges" guys too.

Glad to see someone else out there who has the same phobia. I dont think I could do the Tampa Skyway bridge. I get queasy going over the Memorial Bridge between clearwater and clearwater beach.

Since they've re-done that bridge (Memorial), it has an odd rise to it that makes you feel like you're driving up into oblivion for a few seconds!

Some of the newer overpasses in Tampa are similar. They don't feel like they're banked at the correct angles.

I am a little bit of a bridge hater too, but the Skyway is actually quite nice, and the views are just beautiful. It feels substantial and safe and there really isn't much to give one a queasy feeling. This is in stark contrast to the old bridge, which was the absolute most scary bridge I have ever been on! Especially at the top where you had the old grating that made your car shake and you could see down to the bottom!

I'm very glad I never got the chance to go over the old Skyway bridge! It sounds scary!

I don't mind smaller bridges, like Clearwater, etc, but I have gone out of my way to avoid the Skyway. The last time I went on a huge bridge like that was the Chicago Skyway while it was under construction and down to one lane. You could look straight down right beside you. Scary! I started taking other, longer ways when I went to Chicago just to avoid that bridge after that.

I'm sure I'll go over the Sunshine Skyway sometime. It's at the bottom of my list though.

To the OP: I think life might be a little difficult if you want to be completely bridge-free here. There are fairly small bridges, smaller than the Clearwater bridge that you can use to go to the beach if you wanted to do that. The bridges over the bay, aside from the Skyway, aren't very high, but just driving on 275 through Tampa puts you up in the air for quite a ways. You could live easily in the Clearwater area without ever going on a bridge, but you might feel isolated.

Do not forget also the part where when you were on the Steel Grate, for me on a Motorcycle, you looked to the West and saw the Broken bridge with the 300 foot GAP in the middle! With all the twisted, bent, re-bar hanging out from the edges!
