I suggest you look elsewhere. That area is not real bad but not really in what us olde timers consider Carrollwood.

You want to be a little further north on Dale Mabry past Busch Blvd.

I agree w/Keeper. The place is under new management, but it's still next to the railroad tracks. Wouldn't be my first choice. You'll see when you visit.

okay so that place sounds pretty scary. I have yet to find an apartment on that review site that sounds nice.

You have to consider the ppl who write those reviews are the ones that are unhappy for whatever reason. Most ppl don't write a review if they are happy.

Where is your daughter going to school or work?

Well that is the big question. She has been making applications for many jobs. She has a BA history and sociology and a minor in African American Studies. She has been applying to the Air Force base for civilian employment and some non-profits in the area. Her grand plan is to go to USF to get her
masters in Social Work.

Her Dad and I have agreed to pay her portion of her rent for one year to give her a fair chance at making Tampa her home.

My mother-in-law lives in Dunedin at Dolphin Point. It's gorgeous. Right on St. Joseph's Sound. She pays $1,000 a month. It is mostly older folks living there, but extremely safe. She doesn't even lock her door. It's 2 minutes from Honeymoon Beach and Caladesi, one of the top beaches in the US. It is 45 minutes from Tampa. If you need more info, let me know.

Hey! I LIKE trains! Aside from that, NO place is 100% safe. You can check the crime stats / maps to find low crime areas but even that won't take the place of being safety concious and street smart ALL the time, no matter where you live.

I'm in what's considered an affluent area but there are gangbangers, druggies and murders less than ten miles away. Nothing to prevent those boys from coming through my neighborhood and nothing says I can't have a psychopathic neighbor - we had three kids murdered by their mother here...

My 22 year old college grad has been looking for short term corporate housing for a temporary job assignment. Hasn't been easy, the living expense reimbursement rate from her employer is low for Tampa and most apts won't lease for less than 7 months due to sale tax requirements. We have finally found a good rental for her but I wanted to mention two really cute apartments in the Soho/Hyde Park area that she was not able to rent. Click on availability at this website:

Versaggi Properties

She would have rented either of the S. Westland properties in a heartbeat but they wouldn't accept a short term lease. She needed proximity to UTampa and highways to get to other university campuses on which she would be working, so the location would have been fantastic. Sad not to be able to rent them, but perhaps a lead for some of the searchers here.

btw...we are from Houston, so we are pretty comfortable with city living. The above area looks a little like our West U/Med Center and Montrose/Heights districts. Urban but safe. I realize some here may want suburbs....but I'm posting this just in case. Tampa experts ...please correct me or elaborate further.
