my 23 year old daughter is moving to Tampa with her roommate from upstate NY. I have been helping her with apartment search and they all look good on their websites, but them when I look on Apartment Reviews.com, most of them have bad reviews, especially concerning drug involvement.

They are looking to live in the Carrollwood area of Tampa, needing a two bedroom, two bath that will take pets.

Any advice to calm a mother's worries would be appreciated. We are coming down end of August and have a week to find an apartment.

Thanks

First step, stop utilizing apartment review websites as your primary source of information. All that these websites accomplish is to allow the verbal minority a chance to get one last dig in. Think about the incentive (or lack of) for those who had previously rented to leave a positive review.

Carrollwood is a perfectly nice area. To suggest a particular apartment complex is drug-infested is rather ludicrous, especially if it looks nice otherwise. A reputable management company wouldn't allow it, and would be on to it if were so blatantly obvious to these negative reviewers.

To be frank Apartment complexes do allow drugs ect....there are plenty places within the tampa area where management knew and were being paid off by the drug dealers.

Default Clearwater

Hello. I do NOT live in the Tampa Bay area myself, but my grandmother does. She lives in Clearwater and loves it there. It is nice, clean, and has just about everything. A mall, nice apartments, easy access to Downtown Tampa (just across the bay) and yeah. It is away from most of the drama. I do go and visit about 5 times every year, and in fact, I am moving down there in just a few weeks as well. We will be living in Clearwater because it's clean. Then there is Clearwater beach if they love the beach and everything. Just to sum everything up, it's away from the "drama" and the worst of Tampa. Nice things to do such as the mall, and it has an ice-skating rink in it incase their interested in that. Overall, Clearwater is my favorite area out of all of the Tampa Bay areas. I do love Downtown Tampa myself, but I do not like St. Petersburg. I hope I helped.

To the OP, if you find something good, let me know!! lol... I'm in the same boat. I'm 24, moving down on my own from Detroit. Scared to death, know nothing about renting or moving, and my father is beside himself! I'm just at the point where I have to do it for myself. I'd be thrilled to tell him I found this thread from a dad just like him! good luck to you!

While I'm at it, thought I'd mention... I have friends mine and your daughters ages in the Belleair/Belleair Bluffs area, RIGHT outside of clearwater. FABULOUS place! Not alot of hard drug-doing, some pot smokers here and there who mostly keep to themselves. That's where I'll probably be heading myself. You should check it out!

First question.. where is your daughter going to work or go to school?

You do not want to live in Clearwater and go to USF.

Carrollwood is a nice area and there are some great apts there. If you give us the names of the apts we can offer our opinions.

Tampa Bay is HUGE and while there may be a few apt mgrs who ignore drug dealers most do not especially in an area like Carrollwood.

Renters looking in Carrollwood can consider (among others) Belemere in Carrollwood Village. Here's a link --> Apartments for rent in Tampa, FL - Belmere, managed by Mid-America Apartment Communities.

Thank everyone for their information. We have been looking at lots of apartments online and plan to visit several when we come down August 23rd. Right now, we are looking at Milana Reserve in Carrollwood, any thoughts>
