What the heck is "suitcase city" and why is it called that? Tampa is one of the areas I'm checking out and have heard this place mentioned several times. Can anyone tell me about it?

It's around the USF area. Lots of blacks and midnight movers.

Not directly north of USF which is a golf course as well as a hospital, well-kept rentals including student housing and nice houses for professors & local medical professionals (& north of that, New Tampa, of course) but north of USF &, yes, east of Bruce B Downs, over towards Carrollwood lololol.

Also it is a web site for victims of fashion http://citysuitcase.com/, apparently

According to http://www.sptimes.com/News/040900/H..._gets_la.shtml "The "Suitcase City" label arose during a meeting of off-campus student residents, recalls state Rep. Victor Crist, R-New Tampa, who has long pushed for changes in the area, including the recent opening of a $7-million community center. "It was a descriptive term: "That place is a regular suitcase city,' " Crist remembers someone saying. Deputies picked up the phrase, and the news media followed suit."

It is really not all that bad. I've ridden my bike through there a number of times, never with incident. The rec center there is stunning and well used. I've only been treated well on my tours through the area. One time a guy gave me the peace sign and residents in their yards often say hello to passers by.

Does "suitcase city" affect the safety of students and people who work at USF? I'm not from the area and am considering a job at USF so this is good info for me to have.

With more than 45,000 students, USF is the 9th largest university in the country, but the paranoia caused by suitcase city makes study difficult.

I would not live in Suitcase City again unless I had no choice, but I did when I was a student at USF, like so many others, and I never had anything bad happen to me at all. It looks a lot worse than it really is.

It's fine to work in the area. Just watch out for the night crawlers.
