Will be in Clearwater and was looking for a good local seafood restuarant. We live in the midwest and our seafood travels more miles than we do. It is always the highlight of the trip to eat seafood the way it was supposed to be.
It doesn't have to be in Clearwater just reasonably close. Also, the nearest major intersection would help me find it.

Or...if there is a great local ethinic place that works to. Can't eat fish every day.

Thanks

My favorite is called Salt Rock Grill. It's actually down in Indian Rocks Beach, but it's only about a 10-15 minute drive from Clearwater Beach. It's right on Gulf Drive. They have a website: Welcome to the Salt Rock Grill in Indian Rocks, Florida

If you want to stay in Clearwater, go to the Rockaway Grill right on Clearwater Beach.

For CASUAL seafood - my favorite has to be Frenchy's. They have FOUR locations on Clearwater Beach. In my humble opinion, they have the BEST grouper sandwich you can get anywhere in Florida. Here's their website: Frenchy's Seafood Restaurants of Clearwater Beach
You can see the addresses for all four and determine for yourself which is the closest to your day's beach activity.

For a little more upscale - but not over the top, I like Columbia. They also have several locations around the Tampa Bay Area... and one of them is right on Sand Key Beach in Clearwater (which also happens to be my favorite beach in Clearwater). Here's their website: Columbia Restaurant - Locations
Their food also has a bit of an ethnic flair. The 1905 salad is seriously fabulous!!

There are a couple of great little Greek and Seafood restaurants in Tarpon Springs too... which can be enjoyed during or after a day of touring the sponge docks. If you're interested, let me know and I'll post more info.

What type of "ethnic" foods are you interested in?

For Caribbean - its well worth a road trip to St. Pete: Saffron's Saffrons Caribbean Cuisine 1700 Park Street North St. Petersburg, FL 727-345-6400

Hope you enjoy your vacation in paradise!! If I can provide any more details or info, please ask!

Another vote for Salt Rock Grill, also great from the same owners- Island Way Grill-at Island Way,Clearwater Beach.

And although I'm not much for chains, Bonefish Grill on McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater is also excellent. In addition to excellent seafood, the best salad I've had anywhere.

I always liked Johnny Leverocks but I think they are now defunct (can anyone clarify this?). Have to agree with the small seafood restaurants in Tarpon Springs. Go for it.

I appreciate all the replies. Are the ones in Tarpon Springs easy to find. All I need is the nearest major intersection. Thanks again!

I have to agree with Frenchy's grouper sandwich !! it's the best and there is one right near my house and I've NEVER had a bad ecperience.

Shell's is below average. I used to own a condo in Island Estates right near St Brendan's, and I've never had a bad meal at Island way !

If you can venture east on Courtney Campbell towards tampa, my advice is make sure you visit Oystercatcher's ! outstanding seafood in a very nice, lovely setting

If anybody gets the opportunity do yourself a favor and eat at Mitchell's Seafood in Tampa at Westshore Mall right across from The Palm. Their menu is different everyday everyone I know that has eaten there has been blown away.
