What a stupid comment from House 4 Sale, you can drive in Florida with your head doing a 360, you still can't control the other drivers. You can only drive defensively and stay away from them as best you can. But when they hit the gas instead of the brake, or drive the wrong way down the street( has happened on SHD) you can't control that.

And Hernando County is waiting for 5 million dollars from the federal govt. to start getting the low income folks into the many foreclosed homes. Just in the paper a few days ago. They are including a $5,000 gift card to be used for home purchases. Going to atract a real classy group.

If Spring Hill is so wonderful, why are you selling? The whole area is getting very run down. The retirees are looking elsewhere as the area is nothing like it was 10 yrs ago. It also has the 2nd highest unemployment in the state.

And no one wants to live around low income. Because we all know crime increases.

Default Spring Hill

Yes, have listened to all the Pro's, Con's of Spring Hill. Got a Zillow e-mail late last night that my house valuation dropped another 4.4 percent, hell, if it keeps dropping it will be worth less than what I built it for.....forget the $25,000 put into it in the last two years.

I went on Zillow as there was a home up the block sold for $85,000, looked at the property search for the county......in 2006 people bought this 2/2 for $164,000......in 2009 Bank of America had it for $161,000.....sold 7/2/2009 for $85,000......looking at the figures housing was overpriced, those that sold walked away with a good profit, but those who bought got screwed. As such I'm waiting to see our tax bills that will be out in Aug. with such a large drop in valuation, the taxes should be less, I've lost over $100,000 in valuation.

Businesses are closing everyday, just recently Rizzo's Pizza in the Publix Shopping center on County Line closed. Mariner Cafe on Mariner Blvd closed.
Several more on the verge.......this county has to get something in here besides retiree's and home building.....younger people that want to come here, come for a few months then pack up and leave because they can't find decent jobs to raise families. The crime rate is going up, on a good day there are anywhere from 29 to 32 arrests a day, plenty of posession of drugs, retail shop lifting, battery. The national reports say that one of the last states that will rebound will be Florida, by then it just might be a Ghost Town.

Default Now, now, seain, no need to call names.

In fact, I loved your comment about Croak Hill and I even added a few of my own. And yes, if we drive defensively, stay off the cell phone, not eat a five course meal while driving etc., it does help.

As for low-lifers, I live in what use to be an affluent neighborhood and right in immediate developments we have several houses with umpteen cars in driveways, on grass and God knows how many people in the houses. And that's with a home owners' assoc. I'm saying the dirtbags are everywhere. We had to leave our home of 20 years because of this!!

A relative died and we are having to sell his house. The reason we are staying where we are is because of my SO's work.

I don't know why they're giving those gift cards because over spending caused America the mess she's in. Ie; Giving houses to those who should not have qualified. Giving freebies out is happening to every neighborhood, USA, causing our precious country to be brought down to thrird world level.

Hey, don't blame me. I didn't vote for that!!

Songbird, remember that new 3/2/3 we were trying to sell? Well, the bank finally took it and there's a sale pending on it. They are selling it for less than 1/2 of what we paid. The lot alone was $57,000 and the whole house is going for $105,000. We are just about ruined!!

As for some of the other stuff mentioned on these boards, our Gov. needs to worry about jobs first then healthcare. If we have jobs (like we use to), we can afford our own coverage through our employer even it's only partially paid. But that's the socialist agenda they have planned for our country. They want us to rely on the government for everything. Sad we are losing our America.

If we don't like the way things are going, we need to get on our politicians. They work for us. There are several great websites who address these problems and let us send free FAXes etc. to our elected officials. We can complain or we can do something about it.

Default My thoughts

House4Sale, I'm sure that this is happening all over Hernando Cty and the state of Florida. The mess we're in is because everyone got greedy, bankers/realtors, homeowners we all thought we were on a magical carpet ride the skies the limit, that home prices were just going to keep going up. Well now the reality is the sky is falling. Those that can afford to buy are in a good position, but those that want to sell are lossing big time.

When a bank like Bank of America has a home with a $161,000 mortgage and they sell it for $85,000......they lose too. So now the banks are cutting back on loans and you have to have darn good credit to get a loan. I have a friend who has rented 3 different homes and thought that the landlords were honest with her, that they were in good shape, well, come to find out each one already had the houses in foreclosure when she rented, three times she lost deposits, and has moved three times with her family, now afraid that the next one could be the same.

I'm retired, so I don't need a job, but I know at least 12 young people that are able, willing to work and can't find jobs. Why would a young couple come here with a family if they can't make a decent living? Walk into career central and see the amount of people in there, all wanting the same thing, a job. Our illustraous Commissioners live in Spring Hill, they read the newspapers, they see the crime stats, yet have they approached any companies to come to Hernando Cty so that our people can hold their heads high, walk into a store and pay for a item, without having to shoplift it and land in jail. I'm sorry but I think that the Commissioners have their heads in the sand, they should realize that if people are working they are paying taxes, they are buying items and crime will settle down. Just my thoughts.

Default Songbird, I know of what you speak.

And where did the impact fees on all those new houses go?? In 2006, we paid $5,000 impact fee to build our new home. Times that amt. by the 100's of new houses that went up and at the time, SH couldn't even afford street lights. So again, where did all those impact fees go??

Vote the bums out. Get them out and vote in new people who have a vision and want the best for that town.

The problem is HC is the "good old boy" system. Add to that you have CC with no formal education and no experience in budgeting or project management.

You have had a retired flight attendant, a retail clerk, and guy who runs a pool cleaning business put in positions of power they have no business being in.

You don't put people in charge of million dollar budgets when they don't have the background. All they ever did in HC was build more and more houses.

Nobody ever stopped to think about attracting any industry into the area, so people would have jobs to buy the homes.
