My daughter will soon be 19 and is looking to move out. Financially she will need a roommate or better yet to rent a room from someone. Since we are new to FL we do not know anyone and do not know how to go about finding a good, nice, SAFE way to find a room to rent. We've used Craigslist for other things but honestly the ads for room for rent on Craigslist look questionable!

Anyone know a way to find roommate for first time renter? She works on 66th St. North in St. Pete and needs to be by busline cause she doesn't have a car.

Thanks for any advice!

You might try through colleges/college want ads.

Just because some scam on CL doesn't mean there aren't good people there too. You need to be careful and judge as best you can and then you take a chance. Heck, you can know someone for 20 years before they decide to destroy your life. Life is risky.

Here are some alternate renting resources (I'm affiliated with none nor am I advocating any)...

roommate search service, roommate finder, roommates wanted.

Roommates, roommate finder and roommate search service

Most cities have data on crime which you can search for according to neighborhood or apartment. You will have to look up the site for the specific city.

Craigslist is a good way to go and you can check the crime in the area of the place you are looking at. Most collegiates rent per room at affordable prices, some at 400 all inclusive and they will room mate match.

Good luck!

www.roommates.com

When I was 23 I had just bought my first house in GA. I wanted to rent a room to someone to offset my mortgage payment- I ended up getting contacted by a 20 year old college student who was moving to Savannah from about 70 miles away. She drove up to check the place out one night, we got along, and I rented her the room. Her parents were at first a little nervous about her living with a guy roommate, but once they met me they liked the idea of their daughter living with a guy (i was in the military at the time) in a town where she didnt know anyone.

We became pretty good friend over the 8 months or so she lived there. She eventually left college and moved back home but it was a good situation- and I got along with her friends and she mine.

roommates.com has a decent free website, I reccomend it.
