I'm about to relocate to Tampa Bay. I want to live in the Kenwood area of St. Pete, but I have been offered a job in Holiday. I keep hearing that the traffic is pretty bad and opinions ranging from 45 min to 1.5 hr travel time between the two towns. Which is it? And when during the day is traffic time in the area? I would appreciate any input!

You might have a bit of a reverse commute, but I don't know if that matters too much as you'll be taking surface streets the whole/most of the way. 45-60minutes sounds about right. The worst congestion will be in North County.

45 minutes to 1.5 hours is accurate, depending on the amount of traffic you'd hit. 45 is a best case, 1.5 is a worst case. While it is a reverse commute, your options to get up there all have lights.

Hmmm... I read on wikipedia that route 19 is considered one of the most dangerous highways in America?? Is alternate route 19 any better? Is it slower? How long do you think the drive would be from Clearwater to Holiday? That might be a better option for me. Thanks guys! I am moving in four days, and I will only have a week to find and rent a place once I get down there so this info is very helpful.

You will have to wrestle with many of lights and plenty of crazy drivers. Try a solid hour each way.

Clearwater going ALt 19 is better as it ties into US19 in the Holiday area.

The biggest problem with Alt 19 is that it is only two lanes in some places and isn't grade-separated like parts of 19. I've never taken it all the way up to Holiday, so I really can't comment on its efficiency.

Alt 19 is not quicker as its only 2 lanes and many stoplights and you have to drive over to the beach to access it and if you get stuck behind someone who insists on doing the speed limit(35-45) its going to get very irritating as theres nowhere to pass for 15 miles...
Why not just live in the Holiday area if thats where you will be working,as that commute from St Pete is going to get old real fast.

If you don't want to live in Holiday, maybe consider Tarpon Springs? I think that is closer, but can't tell you the exact commute.

I have family moving to st pete from Mexico in February, including a brand new baby niece. I want to be as close to them as possible. Also, from what I gather, there's more of an art scene there than in holiday, which is important to me.
