I'm considering moving to Florida in the late spring after graduating from the University of Tennessee. I'm planning to attend grad school in Florida after working for a couple years. I'm really interested in Tampa because it seems much cheaper than Miami. I'm pretty excited to move after graduation.

How is the landscape design and construction market in Tampa?

I work in a pharmacy full time and will transfer my job down and will keep this job part time after I get employment as a landscape foreman.

I am wanting to spend no more than 600 dollars a month on rent. I will be living alone until I have made friends and can have a roommate. After expenses I have about 1000$ a month to spend on rent, utilities, and food but would prefer to save as much as possible.

I have enjoyed Tampa everytime I have visited and have always wanted to live in Florida. Would it be crazy to move to Tampa?

The Tampa/St Pete area is cheaper than Miami. Work isn't the easiest thing to find anyplace right now though I suspect in the Landscape Management field with English as your first language you might have a bit more opportunity available. New construction is not happening so much right now though I have heard it is improving. Being able to transfer in your current job is a big advantage. You're not going to find a whole lot that's nice for $600 or less in much of the area. You might consider looking for a roommate share right off the bat. It'll be easier to get established and save for something nicer versus the other way around.

Thanks Kyle,
One of the main reasons why I keep my pharmacy job is the transferability. There are 28 Walgreens in the Tampa area plus more in St. Pete. I don't know anyone in Tampa yet so I don't know where I'd meet someone as a roommate. There is always craigslist but I get frustrated with the scammers. I could always spend more but I was saying with 600 bucks I could easily save money each month. I don't need something super nice. I do like loft living and being able to live in places that were once businesses etc. I also enjoy being close to food and bars. I walk everywhere but to work and school now. If anyone has recommendations on roommates or recommendations on areas of town I might want to consider let me know.
