What are the diiferences between the two ? Are there any major differences ?. I'm doing the research for a potential move from UT. The DW and I are in our early 60's and are retired but are active. Any input (good or bad in an objective sense) would be helpful

Thanx

There are probably hundreds of threads on STP/Tampa.

It depends on what your hobbies are (golf, attend sports, attend orchestra/concerts, etc etc); will you work? Do you want to be close to yatching/sailing? Close to beaches/parks? Malls?

There are a lot of 55+ communities in both areas - as well as down in Sarasota and Bradenton.

If you're in the Tampa area, visit this place - I believe they have a 2 night stay package, listen to their presentation, then visit the area and see other areas in Tampa. Sun City Center is nearby and also a very nice area for retirement. Not sure exactly what your interests are - and finances. Both communities (SCC and Valencia Lakes have homes in a broad price range).

The good thing about this area is that it is not far from STP/Tampa/Bradenton ----kind of smack in the middle/equidistant - but inland enough to probably be spared any problems in case of hurricane (not a flood zone).

But in comparing Tampa w/ St Pete - I prefer the downtown ST Pete area - nice restaurants, marina, the Tampa Rays are still playing in the ST Pete (probably not for long), movie theater, concert hall for the Florida Orchestra, nice high rise condos.

FL looks good next to Utah IF the alcohol % drives you crazy out in Utah. Otherwise, Utah seems to be the better place if you're in SLC climatewise and economically. Seems nice out there, maybe even more pleasant than Denver, but as far as negatives.. See SLC punk. It could still be like that today there.
