My parents just purchased a house in Apollo Beach and back up to a saltwater canal and my brother says he can see rather large fish swimming around the boat dock at several different times throughout the day.

They just recently moved from Chicago so other than him seeing freshwater fish he has no clue what they might be.

Anyone have any ideas what kind of fish usually hang out in saltwater canals? He likes to fish but I have all his equipment here and I am hoping when I come down I can throw a few lines in and see what I get.

Thanks!

Snook, Tarpon (on occasion), redfish, saltwater catfish, whiting, speckled trout, sharks, stingrays (not really a "fish"), flounder, mullet (use a cast net), grunts, pinfish, ladyfish, sheepshead. Other than the tarpon, I've caught all of these from docks on canals. Maybe your parents can go get a book on Florida salt water fish and identify them. Many of the fish you can catch will sting, bite or stab you, so be careful with them.
