Somewhere in my ramblings through Florida postings, I read one that mentioned a fee of $400.00 to register an automobile when you first move to Florida. Can anyone on here elaborate on this please?

Looks like it's $225 for the initial/first registration plus other related fees, e.g., tags, insurance, etc. It may very well total $400 or more. Additional information in the following link Diane Nelson, CFC, Pinellas County Tax Collector

  • Weight 2500 through 3499 lbs. $57.65
  • Weight 3500 lbs. and up $71.15
Lightweight Trucks
  • Weight under 2000 lbs. $46.65
  • Weight 2000 through 3000 lbs. $57.65
  • Weight 3001 through 5000 lbs. $71.15

Yes. The initial fees are very high, but to renew it's not bad.

Also, make sure you bring everything you need to the DMV for the initial registration. http://www.gathergoget.com/

Not sure what your question is, but I'll take a stab at it.

$400+ is your initial fee when you move here. If you have purchased your car in the last 6 months you may also have to pay sales tax on it when registering it here.

Annual registration fee's, after get it tagged, and licensed here i about $75/yr. You can purchase 2 year tags as well. There is no emission test in the state of FL.

Well i still have my old car that is registered in Ohio and still have 6 months of valid numbers. I do plan on buying a new car before my registration expires and i wonder if i have to pay 400+ to be able to get proper plates and registration.

Most of the initial $400 is to get a Florida Title for the car. You annot register the car without a Florida title.

Well thats just stupid. Whats the point of transfering title to the same person but different name? It's just straight roberry right there. Screw it, i'm not changing my car registration untill it expires.
