I hear most Tampa Bay residents are transplants from Michigan, New Jersey, NY?
But what about the Spanish speakers, are they mainly from Cuba? Are there lots of Europeans, or Asians, etc?

It is all interesting and I am trying to get an accurate idea of the demographics and an idea of what countries most people are from.

If someone knows, please share.

I'd check a census instead of a chat forum, if I wanted it to be accurate that is...

As to how many are from other states...I'd say most but not necessarily MI., NY, or NJ

Why would that be important?

I met more ppl from PA, WI, OH, IL, IN and many other midwest states than from NY or NJ. You will find more NY/NJ in Miami area.

I don't know how you tell if someone is from PR or Cuba, unless you are hispanic and can tell by the dialect. There are a fair number of asians too.

What is Tampa made of?
Heat and gales and alligator tails.
That's what Tampa is made of.

That's funny because I was gonna respond to something similiar to what you said-heat, humidity, and bugs.

But seriously for the most part Cubans are in Miami and there seems to be more Puerto Ricans here. Asian wise I see a lot of Phillipinos (I am half Korean and my fiance is half Phillipino and with the huge lot of friends his mother has I am surprised there are so many of them!) as well as Thai. Transplants?? For some reason Florida is a seemibly desirable place to live-at least people from other states think so. There are transplants all over Florida from other states and countries.

A classic understanding of Florida is that Northerners along I-75 stay on 75, and those along I-95 stay on 95.
Hence, the Miami metro area (Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, etc...) has more transplants from NY/NJ/NE, and the Tampa metro area (Sarasota, Bradenton, Pasco Co.) has Michiganders, Ohioans, etc... I also find Tampa to be more in line with bigger, southern cities like Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, whereas Miami tries to identify more with NYC, Boston, Caracas, Rio, etc...
Spanish speakers in Tampa proper as usually from PR, Colombia, Venezuela... Most of the Cubans I know in Tampa are 2nd or 3rd gen. As far as I know, there are very few "fresh" Cubans immigrants in Tampa. In the farming communities surrounding Tampa, there are large numbers of Mexicans and Guatemalans.
Europeans in Tampa aren't as common as in Miami, but there are still some. In my experience, they are mostly Bristish tourists.
All you need to know is Tampa is a great place that can be a home for anybody who wants to be there!

This is not a good answer, sorry. Census is never accurate.

Why is that important? For one its good to know the people. You can get an idea that there would be certain types of shops and restaurants available. Certain customs and also festivities and what not. For example, if the area is 100% Asian, then if I am not Asian, I would have a hard time adapting. So would my kids.

Dominicans make great food, Cubans a mean sandwich, the Argentineans make great steak, so on.

The again if people told me there were alot of Californians there I would avoid Tampa! LOL

That's just a few reasons.

Good post. It's good to know that there is a nice culture mix there and not just for example 50% Cubans as one could easily assume given the proximity Not that Cubans are bad, please. Just wanted to see if there was a good mix of Cubans, Colombians, Argentineans, Dominicans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Spaniards, Chileans, Peruans, Panamanians, etc.

Or if there were alot of Ohio people as opposed to NY, etc.

So this is helpful.

Oh, you're looking for opinions and are basing your 'survey' on the posts of a forum. Now I get it...??
All the people from NY live in New Port Richey
All the Puerto Ricans own Mexican restaurants
and all the Californians would like you to stay home

the point is that opinions will provide stereotyping and if you're OK with that then you can fill in the answers yourself without the 'survey'

proof being: you dismissed a census as "never accurate" but applauded "Northerners along I-75 stay on 75, and those along I-95 stay on 95"... now that's hard information right there...
