Hi,
I am not sure if this has been covered previously, but I have a few questions.

I will be completing a 5-week externship in Tampa in October/November, but I am responsible for finding my own housing. I have been in touch with several locations but I don't really know the area or what is too far for feasibly commuting everyday. I am a 24-year-old dental student. I also want to be somewhere safe as it will be only my dog and I. I have seen a few places in Odessa, Ybor City, Brandon, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of safety and/or commute time? Also I am open to other suggestions in terms of locations!

Thanks so much in advance!

For 5-weeks, do you think you'll be able to find someone to lease to your for such a short amount of time? What about one of those extended stay hotels - got to find one that allows pets, though.

Well I've found several options that are corporate rentals/long term vacation rentals that allow pets. Problem is I don't know if the googlemaps estimated time is accurate or if it would multiply a lot during rush hour etc.

There is a place I'm considering at:
3418 W North A St Tampa, FL 33609-2943

Any idea on how safe that area would be?

I would not recommend anywhere north of Kennedy Blvd (like your adrress there) or South of Gandy Blvd.

By following these parameters, you're left with just a very small portion of Tampa.

That address isn't in a dangerous neighborhood by any means, but it all comes down to what you're comfortable with. I wouldn't go as far as to call it seedy area, but that's just me. You wouldn't have to worry about getting held up or shot or anything like that.

I wouldn't live in that area - because of safety- I do drive right next to it to get to the stadium. It is relatively close (by car) to your practice and not too far from MacDill if you have to go there (grocery shopping - if you have privileges). Possibly reserve your spot in a couple of places like this one, then scout them all out when you get here (cancel the one you don't want). I thought there was a Homestead Suite (extended stay) on Westshore (near the International Mall) that seems nicer - and not too far from your work (short trip via I-275).

I wouldn't call it a bad area either. I wouldn't be afraid to stay there I would think if you are in the AF they would have a list of short term rentals. There is an extended stay on Westshore near the airport.
Tampa - Airport - N. West Shore Blvd., Overview - Extended Stay Deluxe

It is pet friendly
