I've accepted a new job and my family will be moving to the Tampa area over the next few months. We currently live in Atlanta and we're expecting our first child in September. I will be working at Tampa General Hospital and my wife will find work after the new year. We've done a little research for homes and want to find a place to live that gives me easy access to Tampa. Of course we'd like to get as much value for our buck as we can and with a child on the way want to be in a good school district. Additionally, I'd rather not be eaten alive by taxes and insurance costs. The recruiters at the hospital have recommended that we check out Riverview and Brandon in particular. I'm sure there are other communities worth checking out as well. Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Lutz, Odessa, Westchase...excellent schools & safe family-friendly neighborhoods.
Best of luck to you and your family.

You should also check into the Wesley Chapel / Land O Lakes area as well. You can commute directly down 275 and it is a growing area. The new mall is being built in that area, schools are great, there are great deals on new home construction right now, and it is in Pasco County where the taxes are just a little bit lower than Hillsborough County. We are helping many clients move to that area for all of the above reasons.

As the above post mentioned, Lutz, Odessa, and Westchase are also good areas. We live in Lutz and love it because it is centrally located to everything we need. We have a friend that lives near us in Lutz and he works at Tampa General Hospital and says the commute is not bad. It obviously depends on what your schedule is at TGH.

If there is anything we can do to help - just let us know.

Tina

Since you'll be working at TGH, and your soon-to-be little one won't need school for a few years, why not rent at first? Many rentals on Davis Island are reasonable, you'd be able to walk to work, and it would give you time to scout out the area (including Pinellas County) and pick one you really like. It's nothing like Atlanta here.

My husband was also relocated but to Tarpon Springs. We started checking out areas in January and decided on Odessa. It's close to Tampa and there are some really beautiful areas there. Our daughter just got a job teaching in Wesley Chapel and she loves it there. It's also close to the city. Best of luck and feel free to im me with any questions you may have.

Also check out Valrico. I have a friend who just moved there into a 6 bedroom house 3200 square feet. Very eclectic area, diverse and housing costs seem to be pretty in control. They are newer built homes.

I would think Westchase wouldn't be a bad commute- on second thought - looking at a map it might.

Brandon/Riverview to TGH via Selmon isn't a bad commute, last time I was in Tampa it seem that traffic sailed. But I didn't travel during rush hour.
