Woke up this morning to find my GE Profile(Model PSS26SGPASS) to be warm in the freezer and fridge section...not a good way to start your sunday

GE refridgerator's don't seem to last as longer, this fridge is about 6 yrs old..I was hoping it would work repair free for 10+ yrs...

I checked the condensor fan(its running), compressor(not making any noise and its cold), checked the relay(hear the clicking noise) and checked the control board(nothing was burnt!)
The fridge and lights is ON except its blowing warm air and showing 80 degree in both sections(side by side fridge)..

Am not techie enough to run diagnositics..

Called GE and they said they will charge $79.99 for house call + labor and parts there has to be somoene else who can do the same job for less ...

Can someone recommend a good repair technician?..

Appreciate all of your responses...

Repairman will charge you a fee, if he doesn't fix it, he will charge you more. It cost me $200 to fix my fridge that soon broke 4 months later. Just get a fridge off of craigslists or get a proper technician from GE.

Looks like everyone does charge a fee to schedule a visit!

Finally called Sears and they charged me $69 for house call and to give an estimate..

The estimate came to be about $480 (includes the $69 fee) for parts and labour along with the list of part(s) that's kaput. Said THANKS and ordered the part online with 1 day shipping and installed it today and now my fridge is humming along...

Total cost: $129(parts from Amazon) + $69(for Sears) = $198

Next time try 'Tate's appliance. They have been around forever and have an excellent reputation

There are enough places where you can buy used fridges....specially with all the foreclosures, people have taken the nice ones out and sold them ...

6 years old is not very old for a frig.I would expect it to last at least twice as long. Glad it all turned out for you

There are sites online to help diagnose problems. I always try that before calling someone.

What was the bad part? I was guessing a starter relay or condenser fan motor. It's a good idea to periodically clean the coils. Good air circulation is important.

GE refrigerator's seem to have a problem with mother boards and reading online most of them fail right around 6-8 yrs of use..

Well, then it probably means you don't have any electronic display in your fridge..

Yep. agree, if you need to keep it simple/cheap - just ignore the latest technologies..
