Moved because I burnt out on northeastern lack of work/life balance, and wanted to find a slower pace. Family's mostly on the east coast so didn't want to move west. Also hate winter, and love hot weather and the beach, so south made sense. Did not focus on St. Pete, but found a job opportunity here and jumped on it. Quasi-southern here, nice slow pace, very friendly people, and a great, laid-back beach vibe. Weekends were like golf vacations this winter, beach vacations now. "Vacation" is the right word -- does not feel like just a day off, but like a legit vacation; hope that feeling doesn't fade in time. Sun sets late enough here to get in beach/pool time after work -- feels like I had the day off after that. Family up north thrilled with free vacation landing pad, and trips down all the time (maybe this belongs in "dislikes" section...).

Renting near the beach for now. Have to pinch myself sometimes for the view, but overall a mistake. There's not much there but the beach and the neighbors are all much older (we're late 20s). Spend most of our not-beach time in downtown St. Pete and the Old NE, and frequently call it an early night to drive home. Closing on a house in the Old NE soon. Easy to make friends, lots of people our age, can walk to bars/restaurants/parks/bay/city beach/tennis, short drive to a good muni course, 20 mins to the gulf beaches. Has that laid-back beach vibe with chill bars, vacationers having fun, lots of events/festivals, etc.

Re dislikes, the economy's still very bad here, lots of depressed areas and people. I wouldn't leave a good job to come here unless I had a good job lined up. Dislike that my favorite neighborhoods are relatively small and very near to poor neighborhoods. Also dislike the development-by-urban-sprawl and lack of open space other than water. Agree with others that people here drive dangerously, and not just the old people. Overall, feel as if we're darn near best case scenario on the move.

Smile Anyone that has just moved from another state to pasco, hillsborough, or pinnellas county ?

I recently relocated from Michigan almost 3 months ago. I actually like it here in Tampa bay area. I love the sunshine and I am going to love winters even more. There are things that I don't like but so far the good out weight the bad. Everywhere has it's good and bad. Besides I needed a change from the longggg winters in Michigan. I am on this post to try to connect with new comers to the area. Also what are the best beaches over this way ? Any advice ?

i like st. pete beach and siesta key (sarasota) the most so far. clearwater beach is nice but it's more of a tourist one. madeira beach is decent but they have a neat little shopping/boardwalk district across the road from the beach.

That's good news. I'm relocating for school (maybe permanently) to the Tampa Bay area in January and I'm glad someone from my general area (I'm in Indiana) made the move and is enjoying it so far.
