any are in Tampa to live where would it be? We are moving at the beginnig of the year from VA. I have a 3yo and a stepdaughter who is 11. We have considered Bradenton but did not get to see it on our last trip. We did look at houses in Fishhawk. That seemed like a great area/neighborhood. I'm wondering about the area around it though.

We also drove around the Seven Oaks neighborhood and Wesley Chapel some.

I'd love some opinions... preferably none that say "Don't move here" since the decision is made!

Thanks in advance!

Michelle,

I've lived in Carrollwood over 20 years and we still love it. My daughter and her family also bought a home here last year. Carrollwood is in the Northwest Hillsborough County area. Most of the homes were built between 1960-1990, so our infrastructure is already built (schools, hospitals, shopping, highways, etc.). There are some newer homes here and there, but not like Fishhawk and in the Southeast Hillsborough area!

Please let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with.

Sincerely,
Karen.

If money were no object and I could freely choose...

Countryside (Clearwater), East Lake (Palm Harbor), Oldsmar or Odessa.

Within Tampa...Carrollwood Village (older but beautiful homes) or Bayport/Bayside (Town 'n Country area.)

A lot depends on where your going to work. Each area has something special to offer and something to dislike.

His office most likely would be in downtown tampa. If not at first then eventually. So the commute is a bit of an issue but I also am more of a suburb girl so we want to live outside of the area a little bit. It seems like anything outside of downtown is going to be at least a 45 minutes commute though.

Tampa is great! I'm actually moving to NC but I've been here for 9 great years. I live close to Seven Oaks in Wesley Chapel. Seven Oaks is great - the school within Seven Oaks has gotten rave reviews. They are building a mall bigger than all the malls in Central Florida right down the road. It's going to be great! Bruce B. Downs has Bonefish, Cork & Olive and some conveniences such as Super Target and Super Walmart practically side-by-side. The only con is if you work or need to get to Tampa. The traffic is amazing (not good amazing - unreal amazing!). I have to take SR54 to I-75 - Seven Oaks will put you close to I-75 so that's a plus but I-75 to I-275 is no fun deal in the mornings or at 5:00pm Other than that, you should be fine. Suburban livin' at its' finest - good luck and welcome to Florida - I'm leaving but I've had some of the best times of my life here and I hope you do as well!

If you want character, look for homes around Bayshore Blvd - it's so pretty there
or Old North East St Pete, it's only a 25 min hop over the bridge to downtown, lots of tampa workers live in Old north east, very old style Florida and walking distance to the downtown attractions.

The original question did not require price consideration, so I would say Hyde Park, that portion of Tampa starting around the Davis Island Bridge and adjoining Bayshore Boulevard for several miles.

The houses are often in "Architectural Digest" magazine and the school system is one of the best in the nation. The high school, H.B.Plant is rated among the best.

It is about 5 minutes from downtown and the walk along the Bayshore Boulevard is fabulous. It is officially the longest uninterrupted sidewalk in America.
