Hi, im interested in finally moving out of the state rhode island, I will be graduating in the month of september with a Bachelor Science degree in Network Engineering. So far i have Data networking entry lvl experience and my internship contract is over on the day i graduate.

I good number of my family has moved from RI to Tampa and when i go visit I like the lifestyle out there. I love the extreme hot weather, i love the night scene, i enjoy beaches and the People i meet there. I also dont mind driving to far places because i commute to CT and MA state multiple times a week.

I've never moved out of my moms house due to heavy payments in school, and now i want to experience a fresh start somewhere else where i would think i would enjoy.I also decided to finish school and get some experience before i moved to a different state. Can anyone give me some insight/ opinions on attempting this big step in my life to finally get on my own. for example the housing, jobs etc and PS crime rate isnt too much of a big deal to me because i grew in bad neighborhoods to begin with, i was just smart enough to not get sucked into that life style............

Sorry for the big post, i just really like Tampa

You will want to live in South Tampa, for starters. That is a no-brainer.

We are going to need to know what kind of budget you are working with before making real reccomendations. Landing a job is of course going to be the primary task.

There is a good amount of IT work for new college graduates. Check out the sites for Raymond James, JP Morgan, Citi, Rathyon, Verizon, Progressive Insurance, 3LG, Baycare, 4 big accounting firms. and craigslist.

The bad thing about Tampa is the low wages because the cost of living here is low and taxes are low too. If you make above $55,000-60,000 a year, while you are single, then you are pretty set.

If you want to join the young professionals then you are looking at Soho and Hyde Park area. St. Pete has downtown and Central Ave. Make sure find a good hobby that interest you and network to make friends, that will probably make the move worth while.

My brother has a degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) and he just started a new job at Tampa General Hospital. He did have experience, but they did tell him they were expanding their IT department and were hiring.
