Hi,

I am planing to move to Tampa from Philadelphia and work at MacDill AFB and I have few questions:

1. Where to live? zip codes? (eazier to search) Rent or buy prices for 3 bedrooms? I would like to be closer to base up to 5-6 miles (I hate cummuting), but we also do not want to be so far from the beach...Please consider that I have 2 teenagers, so I would like them to go to a good school.

2. What about Jewish community? Which area?

Any other info you think will help will be nice

Thank you in advance!

There are some nice homes on Bayshore at Hyde Park, Davis Islands - those are two areas that I'd focus on.

Have you been to MacDill before? To ask to be within a few miles of the base and near a beach isn't realistic - although there is a small beach on MacDill.

Check out 33629 and 33611. Both are very close to the base and the consist of the South Tampa part of town. The best areas are between Kennedy and Gandy, but there are plenty of decent family neighborhoods between Gandy and the base, so don't let people fool you. A lot of military types seem to live out in Riverview, Valrico, and Brandon, which is about a twenty or so minute drive from the base via the Crosstown Expressway. There are a few express buses from the eastern suburbs to MacDill which are heavily patronized by military people.

South Tampa isn't on the beach, but it is anywhere from a twenty to fifty minute drive over to the Gulf of Mexico, depending on the time of day/traffic.

There is a Jewish community in Tampa and I can think of two synagogues in South Tampa alone, but I'm sure there are some in the suburbs.

Sorry, but the only way to make to the gulf coast in 20 minutes if you live in Rocky point or on Ghandy next to the bridge and drive at midnight on a tuesday.

South Tampa to the beach is about 30 minutes with minimal traffic and living on the west side of S. Tampa. More likelly it will take about 50 minutes on a regular day to get to Indian Rocks, Tressure island beaches, ~ and hour to St. Pete Beach and ~1:20 to clearwater, since you will be sititng 45 minutes in the clearwters with all other beach goers. There are few ghetto beaches closer, west of Gandy bridge and Next to Wiskey's joe on route 60, just past rocky point. Drive times 10-25 minutes depending where you are in S. Tampa.

Crostown express will take you more to the east, and further away from the beaches and 15 minutes commute limit gives you only the South Tampa area. It has nice schools and fairly crime-free area if you live north of Gandy, with few blocks of exceptions
