Just curious some good areas and decent housing for around about 1000?? Housing looks pretty high from what I have seen, idealy Im looking for a 2br with a garage (1 or 2 car) 15 min from the base. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your options are going to be limited if you want to be 15 minutes from the base. Look in South Tampa for homes preferably North of Gandy.

Depending on the time you have to be at work you can also check out Seminole Heights which is an older nabe but the cost of housing is a cheaper.

Would you consider a little longer drive? What else is important?

Good luck at only 1k.. We are paying 1300 (3 bed, 2k sq feet) and we live 30 mins away from base in Brandon.

btw dont forget to check AHRN for houses, lots of them are listed there in tampa area, that's how we found ours.

thanks for the replies, yes I would be willing to drive a little further, I really dont want longer then a 30 min commute tho. I have been looking on AHRN and for some reason it seems to me that alot of them listed are pretty from from the base...really those are the important things, i would also be will to pay a little more, im single so schools and things of that nature arent important, I have a classic car so thats why the garage is a must, I wa just hoping to spend around my BAH for rent...Does anyone know how the base housing is on Macdill??

Base housing is fine... if you like duplexes. We dont, which is why we chose off base housing. There is a very large population of military here in Brandon. With the expressway, it takes my husband ~40 mins to get to work from door to door. The base gate line can be hectic at times.

I was also curious about, coming from little rock which isnt very big and the gates are normally busy about 7-8am but not horrible, even so i was always there before that. Is there only 1 gate on and off Macdill?

Yep - both far commutes (30-40 mins depending on traffic). If I worked at MacDill, I'd look into renting a condo on Harbor Island or find a place on Davis Islands.

Two gates (maybe more). The traffic backs up a long way on both of them.

Valrico and riverview are right near here in Brandon (next areas east of here). Your drive would still be about 40-50 mins with expressway depending what part of valrico/riverview you're in.

There are 4 gates open in the morning to alleviate traffic, but its still pretty bad.
