The reason the shelters are so full is because ppl are not responsible and don't re-search how much a dog or cat really costs, in food, litter, and God Forbid they need a VET....my in-laws spent thousands on their dogs.

Ppl realize how much the food costs and their overall care, (take them out, scoop after them, accessories, toys etc), and then they realize they either don't have the time, money or simply WILL to care for that animal.

I think Shelters and anyone selling any kind of animal should have a class teaching these potential adoptive "parents" the average costs of owning a pet before allowing anyone to adopt them. Because in the end it is not fair to either the animal or the owner, especially when these pets are bought for children, why disappoint rather that set expectations clear from day one?

All the shelters have all kinds of dogs and cats that make wonderful pets.
Don't buy a dog, adopt one. You will be saving one !!

Buying a dog,is like having another child as far as responsibilty goes. Don't do it unless you are prepared to go the distance.
