Moving from Pentagon city area of Arlington, Va. I can afford roughly $3k more or less a month rent. Which area fits better? Downtown St.petersburg or downtown Tampa. I am 35 yrs old. I live in a hipper part of Arlington,Va now. I like nicer higher end condo's and I like waterfront area's as well, but I definitely do not want a older crowd (no offense to the older crowd). I like nice restaurants, a busier atmosphere and clean living. I am willing to sacrifice for the right area. Waterfront is not a must. Honestly water is all around you in Tampa anyways and is only 20 minutes away regardless where you live..... I guess what I am saying is that I looking for a higher end area but with out losing the social interaction of a busier community.

Thanks in advance Tampa!!!!!

Nothing here is comparable to Arlington, so don't expect to find it, however, both downtown St. Pete and South Tampa have some attributes that will remind you of it.......on a much smaller scale.
St. Pete has the downtown high rises with water views, saturday market, restaurants, the Dali museum, and close proximity to the beaches.

South Tampa is considered the best part of Tampa for young professionals, it is further from the beaches as you have to cross Tampa Bay.

Which one you prefer is an individual decision as indicated by those posters here who have come from NOVA. I know I'm forgetting a few posters, but xbillyx and user8 are from that area and if you search the forum for their posts or threads you might gain some info from their perspective and research.

go to top of page and click on search. then click on advanced search and the screen will show search by user name. type in user name(it will display nameswith started spelling once you begin. If you check by threads it will show ones they started, check posts, and it will show threads they have posted in.
You could also do a forum search with keywords such as "downtown st. pete" or "South Tampa" and that will bring up some threads with info that may help you.

Me and my wife went and looked at "the place at channelside". We loved it and would have moved in, but we have kids and there wasnt too much space for them to play, but if it was just us two then we would have been our first choice.

Tampa Apartments, The Place at Channelside, Channelside Apartments

Click on their user names then click on the menu option that lists all their past posts..

Downtown Tampa kinda closes up at 5pm,St Pete is a bit more lively after business hours,You'll only know what area suits you best once you are in the area and can compare for yourself, personally for $3K a month rent i'd probably live right on the beach.

You will not recognize downtown Tampa in just a few years. Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeffrey Venik along with Microsoft's Bill Gates are investing 1 billion dollars towards beautifying the waterfront, renovating Channelside District and parts of downtown with retail shops, new businesses and definitely residential, it's geared to bring a whole new influx of downtown living in the city of Tampa. I'm in downtown everyday and see enormous potential.
